The presidential election to be held two weeks from today is the culminating contest between two ideologies, not just two candidates. It will pit America’s political left against her political right, and it will contrast the values and visions of two very different “American Joes.”
The first Joe — Joe Biden — is a six-term U.S. senator who dreams of growing the government; the second Joe — Joe Wurzelbacher — is a plumber from Toledo who dreams of growing a small business.
“Senator Joe” is a Democrat who wants pipe-fitter Joe to postpone his dreams, “be patriotic,” and pony up for expanded government programs. “Plumber Joe” thinks government is already big enough, and that individual Americans should choose and pay for the goods and services they consume.
Senator Joe endorses “sharing the wealth” in order to provide universal government security. Plumber Joe is more interested in preserving his options and protecting his freedoms; he understands that investing in his dream of business ownership requires preservation of capital/property.
Democrats who share Senator Joe’s vision for America are expected to win supermajorities in both houses of Congress on Election Day. If Senator Joe ends up in the White House, the ideology that places security above freedom will control all branches of government.
