Changing the World: One Pickle at a Time
The Chicago Daily Observer ^ | October 20, 2008 | Daniel J. Kelley

Have you paid a visit to Altgeld Gardens recently? This public housing complex has affordable housing units available for immediate occupancy, but apparently few people want to live there. A certain community organizer made a name for himself after working here without appreciably improving the daily lives of the local residents that he set out to empower. I wonder whatever became of him?

If the weather is pleasant this weekend would you like to take a walking tour of the Illinois 13th Legislative District? Not interested? Isn’t Englewood much improved after Obama represented the district in the Illinois Senate?

Surely, there is no crime or poverty in the now prosperous community. Why do you hesitate? Someday, a documentary film will be produced along this soon to be historic patriot’s trail.

Barack H. Obama has promised to change the world. Call me a skeptic, but how can he reform the planet if he failed to clean up his own backyard when given the opportunity to make a difference? Prior to launching his presidential campaign, he made no impression whatsoever in Chicago, Springfield, or in the US Senate.

A friend recently related an anecdote that summarizes the current situation perfectly. While shopping at a delicatessen in Skokie, my friend was waiting in line behind an elderly man who was using a set of plastic tongs to choose kosher pickles from a pickle barrel. When the man had finished at the barrel, he turned and said “Don’t worry. Once Obama is president, all of the pickles will be better too.”

In truth, Senator Government has been a steadfast friend of the status quo as witnessed by his support by public school teacher unions. Obama’s only discernible talents seem to be an ambition to pursue higher elective offices and a shameless sense of self promotion.

If elected, will Obama’s first task be to negotiate another book deal for a third ghostwritten autobiography undertaken before the age of fifty? Is there room for an appropriate Obama Memorial on the National Mall? Did Obama choose a preferred location on the mall when he participated in the Million Man March sponsored by Louis Farrakhan a few years ago?

The most disturbing feature of Obama’s candidacy for me is his willingness to associated with any public figure or elected official who could serve to further his ambitions. Crackpots, corrupt political insiders, radical advocates of violent revolution and liberation theology, aspiring Third World dictators and Communist party members alike have all associated with Barack Obama. A Hawaiian high school classmate was quoted as being mildly surprised that Obama sought the presidency and recalled him as hanging out with the burnouts at their school. It is curious to consider that Obama who probably could not obtain a security clearance to work at a government intelligence agency may well be the next chief executive.

It is alarming to imagine the coterie of Chicago machine politicians lining up to fill positions at in an Obama administration. Despite the current economic situation, to be truthful, Illinois has been suffering for a longer period of time than the rest of the country. The state’s finances have been a house of cards for more than a decade and the voracious appetites of the tax and spend crowd have not been sated. Chicago and Cook County have some of the highest taxes to be found in the entire nation, taxes passed by Obama’s political allies. Can you picture these politicians lining up for jobs during the transition?

Do you really think that a plague of prairie locusts descending upon
Washington will be a good thing? Having denuded the public treasuries in Springfield
and Chicago, these parasites need to find a larger host to feed upon. The prospect of emptying the US Treasury must look awfully tempting to the redistributionist schemers connected to Obama. These grifters do not believe in American exceptionalism, but they do love graft.

While the electoral votes of Illinois may be lost in the coming election, to all of the critics located in neighboring Midwestern states who have a love/hate relationship with the City of Chicago, I urge you to cast your ballots as if your life, liberty and prosperity were dependent upon the outcome of the November 4th election. Otherwise, you may not recognize your country if the Students for a Democratic Society and their leftist friends take charge.

I liked the post and liked the reply....

I have forwarded both on to a friend of mine. She is of the Chicago area but lives in IN. She has liberal cousins from both coasts, that forward their spew to her. I thought both would be excellent replies to their smug lack of thought.
