Sarah needs to keep her socially conservative views to herself. We don’t mind but swing voters are fiscally conservative and socially moderate to liberal.

She’s already solidified the base by being there, she’s simply turning off independents now which McCain desperately needs.

It is a winning issue, even in California. Overturned by the courts but on the ballot this Nov.

If she does, she’ll lose a lot more of the social issues conservatives than any liberal or moderate ones. Many of us are only voting for McCain because of her views....because McCain is far from an ideal conservative candidate.

GO SARAH ~

In a word - "No".

In two words - "Hell no".

I disagree. I think Palin’s socially conservative positions only help. An overwhelming majority of Americans are for banning gay marriage. And those who aren't, it's probably not high on their priority list anyhow.

It’s now considered to be a socially conservative position to believe that marriage should be between a man and a woman?

Excuse me, but do you have any data to show independents are fiscally conservative but socially liberal?

I’m tired of Republicans telling social conservatives to ‘get to the back of the bus and let the fiscal conservative adults do the driving’ (Safire, 1996). Has it occurred to you that many independents don’t pay taxes, and don’t give a hoot in hell about lowering what they don’t pay?

I would be willing to pay higher taxes to cut the deficit, but I have no desire to see my guns taken, gay marriage forced down my throat or abortions made legal (and taxpayer funded, per Obama).

Marriage is a religious issue...

Religious faggots need to leave the secular marriage laws alone.

Fiscally conservative is no tax breaks for perversion.

I am tired of the over-subsidized sex lives of other people.

I think the bigger mistake is mentioning a constitutional amendment. People like the Constitution just the way it is, any talk of amending it is bound to have consequences among purists.

What are you doing on a conservative site trying to downplay conservative positions on the issue?

This is a conservative site, not a GOP site unless the GOP is promoting the conservative position on the issue.

Elections are not won running to the center.

The current problems McCain is having coupled with the large crowds Palin is getting should be testimony enough for you and the rest of the GOP Elite to see that being a moderate or left of center RINO does not win elections.

NONSENSE!

CONSERVATIVE MEANS VICTORY.

DINO TRUMPS RINO.

McCain is too timid on this issue.

This is the way to victory.

At the VP debate, Joe Biden stated he also opposes gay marriage, and that this is one issue he and Sarah Palin are in agreement.

Fiscal conservatives don’t care much one way or the other. It’s hardly a make-or-break social issue, as issues go, for this demographic.

Ronald Reagan had a book published, Abortion and the Conscience of a Nation, in the midst of his campaign vs. Mondale.
I'd say, with confidence, that it didn't appear to hurt him.
Like RR Sarah Palin doesn't alter what she says to accomodate the polls. Precisely why she is destined to one day be POTUS. To mute Sarah Palin would be on a par with having Reagan tone his rhetoric down, or take away Thomas Jefferson's pen. And yes, I am convinced that one day Sarah Palin will be cited along these two as our greatest Presidents, she is utterly that remarkable and upstanding.

What a ridiculous comment. You don't really believe the majority of independent voters favor traditional marriage, ESPECIALLY in battleground red states?

How have the Democratic-lite policies of McCain played with independents? Not well. Maybe it's time to actually try conservatism to apply to independents.
