Regardless of the cause, Fire on a ship is a very frightening thing indeed. And which is why every sailor is trained at fighting fires.

Roger that. Felt that feeling. My ship felt small enough already, at only 210ft, but the day I had to announce "Now! Fire Fire Fire! Class Bravo fire has been reported in the engine room!.... " was a singularly frightening experience. My already-small ship suddenly felt like a zodiac with a campfire in it. Very fortunately for us, the crew responded quickly and effectively and got it out pretty quick (though it seemed like an eternity of course).

So yah, fire on a ship will mess up the whole day.
