Let me clarify why i think this IS relevant:

1. It MAY relate to the citizenship issue (at least indirectly) — my best guess is that Obama’s mother rarely (if ever) filed US tax returns while living in Indonesia and Pakistan and yet Americans living abroad are REQUIRED BY LAW to do so. Did she fail to pay taxes becaue she no longer considered half American? How does that reflect on her son's status?

2. It MAY reflect on her patriotism — paying your taxes (like ‘em or not)is the law and a civic duty. Why did she feel exempt from this duty? Was non-payment a form of civil disobedience against a government she hated? ie., did she have some wacky “wesley snipes” defense?

3. The issue has the potential (depending on the facts and Obama’s involvement) to make BHO look like (a) the worlds worst son (for failing to help, etc) and/or (b) make him look like a complete hypocrite on taxes (”everybody needs to “share the wealth” — just not my mom”)

One last thought —

If you had a tax lien filed against you — wouldn't you call your son (the Harvard trained lawyer) for some advice? So how likely is it that BHO doesn't know something about this?

Probably not. He was in law school, although at some point during that time, he did get a sizable book advance.

For all anyone knows she didnt even tell him about it. Matter is best left alone.
