Net positive for Palin.

She made Fey and Baldwin look foolish (she and the writing). Also pointed out the absurdity of their absurd caricature of her.

And the applause for her was great.

Plus the ratings were the highest for SNL in fourteen years - evidence that their usual audience is but a slice of America.

I was against her appearing, but now I think it was good and helpful.

Sarah's willingness to peacefully (and humorously) come face to face with these folks plus their respectful acceptance of her on the show has diffused most all of the negative connotations of the skit and placed it back into a neutral kind of entertainment.

Totally agree. Good summary.

Yeah, several news reports seem this stupid. I thought those lines about her changing her mind were suggested in other threads here before her appearance, for those worried that SNL would really try to undermine her. So FReepers have influence!
