Why do you advocate a third party instead of gutting the one we have? Third parties take decades to build and lack the mobility of an organization already in place. Right?
Right...I think the Republicans have done so much damage to the party that it has become illegitimate. Gutting the party requires decades to build back up as well. If those Republican members in congress upset with the “moderate-me too” attitude of the limp wristed Republican majority they should band together and form a Reagan Revolution among themselves. Having 3 parties to choose from weakens both the liberal Democrats and the moderate Republicans...it gives a choice to conservatives who are the majority ideology in America...who wins? Conservatives do. I’d rather have a weak Moderate Republican party and a weakened Liberal Democrat party because of a new third party committed to conservatives...than a weak Republican party and a super majority liberal Democrat party. To me it’s a no brainer..
The Republican Party was founded in 1854. It sent Lincoln to the White House by 1860.

If you want to know what government will look like with Obama as president...simply look to Illinois...a Governor probably going to be indicted by scandal...a legislative branch that fights more than any other in the union...and it’s a super Democrat majority....
In fighting can be really nasty and one party government has some of the worst in fighting there is. Should be interesting to see who gets blamed when everything about America is in shambles under Obama....without Bush around how do they keep running against him? Or does Baghdad Bob tell us we are all wrong...that things are truly wonderful in America when it is horrible?
I don't want to discount history, but a lot has changed - mostly in the size of the electorate. Reaching the electorate can't be done without media. How do we do this in 2008?
So using this as a basis, who is to lead this new party? What's it going to be called? I look at Bob Barr and Ron Paul and don't see Reagan-conservatives. Do you? If you do, please tell me what I'm missing?
There appears to be a lot of wishful thinking among Conservatives right now. The stars are truly aligned for an Obama win.The economy sucks.The Dims are out spending us 2 to 1.The MSM is constantly reminding everyone that Socialism is the Government of tomorrow.Acorn has registered every drunk and dead person they can find.And then there is the great George W. Bush. And Fox is now doing more positive stories on Obama than CNN. I never dreamed that i and my family would ever have to live under a Castro. But America seems to want more change than they could ever bargain for.My God have mercy on us all.

While I will be voting McCain, I am not nearly as full of fear about Obama. Now, this is not because I have some benign vision of “he won’t be THAT bad!” I fully realize and appreciate that he is a socialist, cultural leftist, bureaucrat enabling, freedom hating, gun grabbing totalitarian, and hates everything to do with what I believe.......
However, I really do not expect much out of McCain either (although I like Sarah). If I was a frog, I had rather be thrown into a pot of boiling water, so I could hop out and only suffer some burns, rather than sit there while the water incrementally goes up a degree at a time until I am boiled alive. I think this is Michael Reagan’s point. Who in God’s name would have put forth George W Bush as a “conservative” during the Reagan years? I remember when Reagan won the nomination and picked GHW Bush as his vp candidate (I was in grad school). The joke was “He only picked Bush because Mondale wasn’t available.”
Remember, it was Carter who gave us Reagan. We really really really need the equivalent of the Democratic Leadership Council in the Republican Party. These are bright, realistic, and strategic thinking folks who figure a way to align their party so as to win elections and keep power (Rahm Emmanuel is very Rove-like). They have been known to piss off their “base” by demanding that the party move appearances away from the left. Now why is that? It is because they recognize that the country is NOT socialist in its ideology. The country is stupid, and easily confused by socialist blather, but the roots of individual responsibility, freedom, a general consensus Christianity, and strong defense are topics that resonate.
If the left feels that it has to run to the right to win, and if the right wins BIG when they nominate Reagan, then why is the party leadership so limp wristed when it comes to setting an agenda? We don’t want a leadership like FR bulletin boards are sometimes, so surly and hateful about the left that I wonder if they expect Obama’s head to spin around and projectile vomit. Reagan was not like that. Folks like that are great in keeping the home team warmed up and cheering, but Reagan was so masterful because he was a WARM conservative. He cheerfully mocked the left, but only on occasion and never hatefully. He pointed out that they were foolish, and then had them to dinner. He was POSITIVE and not defensive. As a result, the big group “in the middle” voted for him in droves, because they saw in him their own aspirations. Right now the uncommitted middle sees in the Republican party a bunch of selfish, “protect the wealthy” plutocrats and a cabal of totalitarian religious extremists who want to use political power to get what they can’t get by winning public opinion in the pulpit on Sunday a.m. I am not saying this is accurate. It is just what they see. We would not have a chance in hades if it weren’t for the extremism of Barak O. However, eventually, we have to come up with a better campaign slogan than “we suck less... can’t you see how EVIL they are???” Till we do, we will lose, either by losing the elections, or incrementally by losing the agenda, even if we somehow manage to keep elected power.

No offense, but I’ve spent the last 10 years working a small business that didn’t allow time for much else. I agree with you.. McLame is no conservative but he’s the lesser of two evils and at least he claims he will try to shrink government and stop the waste unlike George McGovern Wannabe Bush.
If McCain/Palin loses (I hope not!), from the ashes of the Republican party will arise the RINO and SarahCuda parties. Sarah has the emotional momentum of the electorate at this time. Heck, just with her rally crowds, she could probably have already qualified as a 3rd party candidate in 40 states. If McCain/Palin win, they will face an entrenched enemy in the Dems/RINOs in the Congress. That will be a very interesting battle for American conservatism.

Matt Drudge used to hang around FR when he was dirt poor. He probably pulls about 125 million pageviews a month. That’s a lot of people being reached. Maybe a quarter million dollars or more in advertising revenue monthly for his troubles, I’d guess.
