BEIRUT -- A new report based on previously classified documents suggests that the Nixon and Ford administrations created conditions that helped destabilize Iran in the late 1970s and contributed to the country's Islamic Revolution.
A trove of transcripts, memos and other correspondence show sharp differences over rising oil prices developing between the Republican administrations and Mohammed Reza Shah Pahlavi in the mid-1970s, says a report to be published today in the fall issue of Middle East Journal, an academic journal published by the Washington-based Middle East Institute, a think tank.

Ask Reza Pahlavi’s wife, son, and the rest of his family which president caused the Islamic revolution.
I call bravo sierra!
Islamic fundamentalism caused the uprising against the Shah and Jimmy Carter fanned the flames instead of providing support to the Shah. The Shah warned Carter that if the fundamentalists won in Iran they would unleash a movement that would give us problems for decades all over the Middle East. He was obviously right on the mark.
And Iran needs the price of oil to be at least $90/barrel or their economy will collapse. I don’t think this bothers the Saudi’s in the least.
Wasn’t the embassy taken over by the Iranian mobs when Pres Carter allowed the Shah to enter the US for medical treatment? Even the Nazi’s respected embassies.
