Isn’t it true you have to serve an apprentiship before you can even be a licensed plumber? For all we know some old guy is apprenticing him and he plans to buy the business when the guy retires....

The whole issue of “lisenced” is a red herring. By bringing it up they mean to imply he operates illegally.

In construction businesses lisenced means a number of different things and they vary from State to State as well as by Communitees.

First of all you have Occupation Lisences generally issued by cities or political subdivisions like counties. The are often not required outside city limits. Sometimes individuals working without employees are exempt. They usually are a simple form and annual fee.

Next you have what is called a Masters Lisence. For certain trades such as Plumber, Electrician, Spinkler Fitter, Boiler Operator, Elevator Installer and other skilled crafts the State or political subdivision such as a City issues this lisence after a test and a fee. The test can be quite difficult. I hold one as a General Contractor and it was an eight hour exam that many fail to pass.

In various political subdivisions the Master’s lisence is required to do one or more of the following:
Own the business
Manage the specific project
Obtain the Permit
Perform the new work
Perform repairs

Each state, county, city or contract has ordinances and codes which govern if and by whom a Master’s lisence is required and it varies by craft.

I managed over five million dollars in plumbing and pipe-fitter work in 2005 and I don’t hold a Master’s lisence in either Craft. That project required no City permit and no occupation lisence. I did have a large number of Master Plumbers and Master Pipe-Fitters amongst the over one hundred tradesmen working on the job.

Again the purpose of the leftists is not specific but instead to slur his character.
