I'm not sure how you reason that any candidate, let alone Obama, can be elected with less than five percent of the vote, given the dynamics of our current system.

Was McCain your choice? He wasn't mine. He was, like 0Bama, the choice of, let us say, 5-7% of the activist members of his party (you say 15%?OK!) That's my reasoning. In general elections we ALL just hold our noses and vote, cheating nobody but ourselves, because our real candidate should be running as the choice of our, European style party representing our views and principles, and not some broad coalition of compromises and hypocrises of our current system representing on both sides mom and apple pie.

And, as I had pointed out earlier, our preference for two parties that stand for nothing in particular, just everything good in general, is about to give us a Communist infiltrator in the White House. He could have infiltrated the Pubbie party just as well, if he had put his mind to it. It would have been more of a challenge but not impossible.

If you want to look at it that way, then be my guest, but it in no way is similar to the xcenario I proffered that would elect a President with, literally, 7-12 percet of the vote.

That's not a consequence of the two party system, it's a consequence of the willful ignorance and laziness of the voters themselves, a good percentage of which can't even get past the actual mechanics of the voting process for much the same reasons.
