I have trouble with the term, "wealth." What you are actually talking about when you say "wealth" is actually ownership of things. Ownership of land, or of cars or boats or planes - or of money - is actually credit for the equivalent benefit to society. That is, if I fix your sewer (were I Joe the Plumber), you give me ownership of some dollars which you and I agree constitutes the appropriate amount of credit for the work. And you got that credit from your employer (or customer) in recognition of what you did that he wanted done.This system of crediting people for their efforts is effective because it is an incentive to and reward of useful effort - and no one is in a position to give more credit than what they have in the bank. No one, that is, except the government - and that ability of the government is actually illusory. The government can print dollars, but they represent government debt which, if not balanced by tax receipts, reduces the effective amount of credit which each dollar represents.
