Having slept on it, I think it’s clear McCain scored two excellent zingers—”If you wanted to run against Bush” and “Senator Government”, and he scored a gamechanger with Joe the Plumber. The MSM as always missed it entirely.

I also loved the Hugo Chavez line. That was fantastic.

I disagree slightly. IMO, McCain left himself stuck on third WRT Joe the Plumber. He failed to make the point that 0 is an adherent of wealth distribution which is solialism/Marxism.

He almost got there, but stopped just short of it.

About 40% of the American people pay no income taxes directly. Many of those have payroll taxes, but in April, they file their 1040s and then get back all of the income taxes payroll took out.

So, they are already getting a check from Treasury. If the check were larger in 2009 or 2010, they will be happy, and never think about the wealth transfer, only that Treasury gave them a larger check. Then, 0 will be their hero.

McCain needs to explain, in clear terms, why that is A Bad Thing. Most of that 40% don’t know why it is A Bad Thing.

James, the young black man who stood up and told John McCain “to fight for us”, was on “FOX and Friends” this morning. Yesterday, he got up and left during an interview at CNN. I didn't get to hear all of it, dang it, but I did hear him say that he had gotten tired of “people bleeding all over” him. I wasn't real sure what he meant, but I think he meant he was tired of bleeding libs trying to “convert” him. Bless his heart, though, he's had death threats and all sorts of ill will since blacks found out he was a conservative! Don't you just love those tolerant Dems?

Sorry I didn't respond directly to your post, but I thought maybe it was germane since we were discussing the dumb media.

The third zinger was McCain accidentally calling 0bama “Senator Government”. I think 0bama now has a new nickname.

I think, too, that Obama's long-windedness probably cost him last night. Gone was the "exciting orator" of old -- in his place was a fountain of words with no discernable thread.

McCain's quip about "Senator Obama's eloquence" was key there -- as was his subsequent parsing of what Obama said. That was a big deal.

The funny thing is that McCain totally backed into calling O “Senator Government.”

Senior moment, Freudian slip, or flash of genius? You be the judge.
