Atrial fib is rarely fatal, if ever, and many people have it constantly and never come out of it. Ventricular fib is extremely dangerous and will eventually kill you. I have atrial fib and have had it for about 12 years, you have to be sure to take coumadin or some other type of blood thinner however to stop blood clots, other than that they treat it with an ace inhibitor, beta blocker or calcium channel blocker and many times this stops it cold. Ventricular fib a person should have an internal defibrillator implanted.
