She is now a Freeper, and from other posts here it looks like it’s been verified that these were real Secret Service agents. It also sounds as if there is no way to prosecute the person who reported this as a death threat. They have to investigate any threat and had no way of knowing if it was a lie.
From now on I will be pushing the record button on my answering machine when campaign workers call. It would be nice to have a video recorder for any unexpected visitors at the front door too, but that would require some real cash outlay! Maybe a security camera with video backup?
One of my friends was burnt in the 2000 SC primary debacle by CNN. (This was in connection with the infamous McCain-Bush imbroglio.) They called him at his house to ask if he would do an interview. He agreed to see them, and, to his amazement, they showed up minutes later. (They were already in the neighborhood when they called.) The shoot lasted over an hour, but they used only a few minutes of it -- all carefully clipped to distort what he had said into a form which fit their narrative.
I realized then that the best move for him would have been to invite a friend over with a camcorder and shoot an independent recording of the session. If the crew balked, they could just be invited to take a hike. That would have spiked the hatchet job from the start. Hindsight, and all that. <sigh>
Security cameras and solid-state recorders are getting cheaper all the time. They may become essential accessories on every house and car, at least for those who consider the truth a mighty shield.
