Sadly, Mayor Newsome was available for comment.

I bet the numbers are a LOT higher too. I would be surprised if it’s less than a 65% win for proposition 8.

The polls always understate the degree of support for traditional marriage. Prop. 8 will get 60% and will fare no worse than 55%.

I wonder if the governor will try to invalidate it.

I just hope McCain never signs something like that into law.

Neither the courts nor the governor can invalidate a constitutional amendment. They are obligated to follow it. And this will put an end to perennial legislative attempts to put a same sex marriage law on the books in California.

That can't be so. Californians voted earlier this decade
against homosexual marriage, yet the courts still made it legal.
Why won't they do it again?
To: nickcarraway
Laws are easy to overturn when compared to Supreme Court decisions.

Mr Schmidt said more than 11,000 gay couples had tied the knot in California since MayHmmm... I wonder where this number comes from. The marriage certificates do not state whether the couple is same sex or not. This allows gay supporters to make up any number they want.
Lets say the number is correct. 22,000 married gays out of 38,000,000 in the state. 0.06% That's not a very large constituency to raise such a ruckus.
To: goldstategop
But the gay/libs would challenge it in court as being unconstitutional just the same.

As of today, America is still a slightly center-right country. Virginia is clearly moving left. LBJ was the last Democrat to take that state but they've been electing Dems statewide lately and could move "naturally" Dem this year. If not this year it'll be 2012. This is *NOT* good news for future GOP presidents.

I think that on Proposition 8, there will be a huge Bradley Effect.

There is no question that African-American and Latino communities are social conservative communities, That explains all that support for Republicans.
Seriously, this quote can only come from a moron. Abortion and bastard babies rule the day with blacks.

It doesn’t. McCain doesn’t stand a chance here in CA. He didn’t seem defeated in Virginia but was clearly concerned about his prospects and emotional over the future of this nation.

You don’t know what you are talking about.
To: redstateconfidential
If this is voted in then it will be illegal and you can be sued to talk against same sex marriage.Think about that.It will have a domino effect and I see this going to the Supreme Court. The only way to win through all of this is the ability to choose the school your child attends because this will be taught in public schools.Bush has failed us on this and McCain should be asked about it now.
