The FBI is investigating the exchange of gunfire between U.S. Border Patrol agents and suspected drug smugglers across the Rio Grande, officials confirmed Monday.

The shootout occurred around 7 a.m. Monday just south of the small western Hidalgo County community of Abram.

Local Border Patrol spokesman Dan Doty Action 4 News that agents were watching suspected drug traffickers attempting to cross a load of narcotics when they came under fire.

The agents returned fire and the shootout lasted for about two minutes.

No one on the American side was injured but it was unclear if anyone on the Mexican side was hit.

No arrests were made but Border Patrol agents were able to confiscate over 200 pounds of marijuana.

Doty said this is the fifth time since last November that agents have come under fire from the Mexican side of the river.

IF the FBI is involved it probably means they are looking for illegality of the BP, not the mexicans drug smugglers

Yes, that was my first thought. Another Campeon and Ramos affair.

Shame on these agents for defending themselves against drug smugglers shooting at them. What are they trying to do, interfere with our commerce with Mexico?

Paging Gen. Pershing, Paging Gen. Pershing.

Wikipedia - "In January 1914, Pershing was assigned to command the Army 8th Brigade in Fort Bliss, Texas, responsible for security along the U.S.-Mexico border.

Hmm, US Military responsible for border security. Who knew?

I wonder how long it will take Johnny Sutton to have the border agents behind bars and facing trial?

I'm sure we'll find out if any drug dealers were hurt when they file their lawsuit /SARCASM

Exactly. If the FBI wanted to do something constructive, they should have been there to join the BP in shooting at the smugglers.

It's easier (and safer) to shoot one's mouth aka an 'investigation'.Photobucket

How lovely! And it’s for tactical situations! Several of those would probably put the wind up any number of narcotraficantes once and for all.
