I wish they would use the term “illegal alien” instead of “undocumented immigrant”.
Calling someone “undocumented” suggests that they simply don’t have an ID. If any of us lose our driver’s license or birth certificate, then we are “undocumented”. They make it sound like they simply don’t have their identification paperwork in order, and that this is not a serious problem. They are using certain words to change the perception of who these people are and what they are doing in our country.
To do that would offer a value judgement. It would adjudge illegal aliens as somehow criminals. Cant have THAT!!As a result, in the Spanish language references and common discussions, in nearly 90% of the cases, the term “undocumented” (indocumentados), even “immigrant” (inmigrante) has to be the euphemism utilized, to avoid tainting them in any negative fashion. But it is one big lie, as everyone with a brain can tell you. Especially LEGAL IMMIGRANTS with all their LEGAL DOCUMENTS in their briefcases, filing cabinets, desks and hutches at home.
