Actor Duvall Blasts Palin Critics at Fundraiser
October 14, 2008 8:24 AM
ABC News' Imtiyaz Delawala Reports: Introducing Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin at a GOP fundraiser Monday, actor Robert Duvall blasted conservatives who have criticized the McCain-Palin ticket in recent days, calling conservative columnist George Will a "super-nerd" and former Wisconsin governor Tommy Thompson a "block of wood".
At an RNC fundraiser in McLean, VA, Duvall introduced Palin for the third time since her nomination to the Republican ticket, taking the opportunity to accuse Republicans critical of the McCain campaign as giving "credence to the other side."
"It bothers me that certain people in the Republican Party are attacking the McCain-Palin ticket, like super-nerd George...What's his name? Duvall asked, prompting a few attendees to laugh and shout out George Will. George...George, I can't even think. George Will," Duvall said, referring to the Washington Post columnist who has been critical of Palin.
The legendary actor then attacked former Wisconsin Governor Tommy Thompson, who campaigned with McCain last Friday in La Crosse, Wisconsin. Thompson had expressed unhappiness with the McCain campaign in an article that appeared in Sunday's New York Times. Asked if he was happy with Sen. McCain's campaign, Thompson told the paper, "No," adding, "I don't know who is."

...who, after hearing Obama's preacher say "G** D*** America!", will be pulling the R lever for the first time in their lives. Some of them in their mid 70's.
Your analysis (entire article, not just this line) is pretty darn good. McCain is doing what he thinks is best for the country, and in fact, I think a little bit of Palin is actually rubbing off on him.
I did not think McCain the best Republican choice, but will support any Anit-obama candidate. I believe that the media helpd McCain gain the nomination as the most centrist of the candidates. McCain was the media's Plan B if Obama is not elected.
It suffices to say he is as annoying as Ken Burns, than whom few are more annoying who pretend to have historian credentials. I have seen what I could stomach of both his 'Civil War' and his 'Baseball'. I hated both and recommend them to nobody. If George Will is that annoying, it should be entirely sufficient to exclude him.
Now, that said, George's intellect far surpasses Ken Burns', and he does know (and does love) baseball. That, in itself, helps me like him more than would otherwise be the case.
If there's someone whom I find more annoying than either it is the self-proclaimed Prince of Darkness, who has been a steady black cloud on this campaign right from the start.
..Duvall, Grammar, Voight, etc.
More coffee!
WOW! A real man in the Republican party! Who knew?!!!
Just a dumb republicans,(Will & Thompson), Hub. Don’t kill them.
Good for Duvall. I’m sick to death of these “moderates” and cowards. I was on . . . Al-Jazeera the other night in a debate about the Bush legacy and I left the lib as a carcass! Not because I’m a great debator, but because I ATTACKED and refused to be bullied by these a-holes. We all need to read “Rules for Radicals” and begin to fight like REVOLUTIONARIES.
Either way conservatives are going to be in hole for the next several years. The difference is being in a hole you can climb out of or being at the bottom of the Grand Canyon.
"Charlie don't surf!"
I agree.
You have that right! At the risk of sounding racist (which I am not) my fear is that we will be stuck in a black hole from which we will never leave, not the Grand Canyon, if Obama is elected. No pun intended.
Hey, wait, aren’t actors supposed to all be for the other guy?
I like your analysis. I still think that McCain makes too many tactical mistakes by pulling his punches with Obama. Strategically it’s hard to find fault with what he is doing. If he wins this year it will go down as a masterful piece of campaigning.
