David Brooks is taking some heat from doctrine-enforcement agents of the left and right for stating, in an interview with me at that famed redoubt of populism Le Cirque that Sarah Palin represents a "fatal cancer" for the Republican Party...

"...David is one of the rare columnists today who wrestles with himself constantly..."

And often loses. That RINOvirus takes a toll on your immune system.

Don’t let the wolf pack group think on this forum bother you. There are way too many “I am god therefore what I say is right” people here.

I haven't noticed any "wolf pack mentality" or read any "I am God..." posts. However, a liberal posting on a conservative blog should expect flak.

Wow this anti Palin uproar from the Giuliani “moderates” is not so shocking.

Will FR embrace socialism to make way for Rudy Giuliani as a Republican presidential candidate?

“Bottom line, Rudy is a survivable presidency for the US. A democrat with a probable demcrat house and senate is not.

If Rudy wins the primary, then you must support him.

If Rudy wins the primary, and you support the democrat or an unelectable 3rd party, then I am out of here and probably more than just me because we love the US, and opposing Rudy after the primary is supporting the destruction of the US as we know it.”

Do you need a Ph.D. to describe all the messes that we have accumulated since FDR and the New Deal?

No, which is why it's all the more disappointing most Republicans since Gingrich have failed to do it (or do it and convincingly articulate solutions).

I'm willing to give Palin time and I think she certainly shows some promise, but the fact that she needs this time demonstrates that she isn't really ready for the position. Then again, McCain felt he needed to take a gamble given his political position at the time and a Pawlenty et al just wouldn't have done it.

That's your opinion. Would you care to elaborate on why you think she doesn't have the leadership or intellect? As far as gravitas, who had any since Eisenhower or MacArthur, and why did they have it?

It all stems from her demeanor. She is, by her own admission, a 'hockey-mom'. Do you seriously think a hockey-mom is going to lead this country out of the wilderness? I think Huckabee would have had a similar problem -- too folksy and lacking a certain level of reverance/seriousness.

And plenty of people have had gravitas: Nixon, Reagan, Cheney, Bush I, etc.

Melas, you have brass ones to go against the ‘sarah’ phenomenon here on FR...you have handled the invective responses well. Who would you see as a better VP choice? I'm hot & cold with Palin as well as McCain but the alternative is just horrific. I think I have no choice but to vote R since 4 years of far Left control of all levers of power would, IMO likely be terminal for freedom in our country....it is very discouraging situation.

Wow, I know you have been here a while, but you talk like one of the liberal “elites”.

Any other group besides state college grads and Palin supporters you want to insult...

People also laughed at the C student from Eureka College.

That C student from Eureka College had been the leader of the actor's guild and then governor of California long before he ran for President. And when he was finally elected, it was the second time he ran.

Palin may be a nice woman. She is certainly an ideologically pure conservative. But she is simply not qualified to be Vice President - and pointing to Obama's lack of qualifications doesn't make her more qualified. It just makes both tickets bad.

It's OK for Melas to vote for McCain, but whether he wins or not the day after election day is when we renew our efforts to PURGE THE RINOs.

So, Melas, thanks for your support, but you'll need to find a different political party on November 5.

If that’s how you feel, why do you post on a conservative website, because you are not a conservative.

Wrong my newbie friend. Conservatism isn't defined by one's support of Sarah Palin around here. If you thought it was, you registered on the wrong site.

Good luck on driving me out of the party. Talk is cheap, but doing it will be something else altogether. As I’m fond of saying, I’ll know something is up when I get a letter from the GOP saying that my money is no longer good with them. Don’t hold your breath.

McCain is hardly a conservative. He’s more centrist, approching liberal.

What is it about Palin you don’t like? Are her policies (you know, that’s what really matters) too conservative for you?

BTW, using my date of registration on the site to try to claim you understand what you are talking about (but obviously don’t) is weak at best, but understandable given your apparent level of cognitive capacity, or lack thereof.

Moron. I am not now, nor have I ever been a liberal. The only test that counts, I score 100% on. I voted for Reagan, Bush, Bush, Dole, Bush, Bush.
