Rep. Lewis clarifies controversial remarks about McCain, Palin

Georgia Rep. John Lewis said Saturday that controversial remarks he made comparing the feeling at recent Republican rallies to those of segregationist George Wallace were misinterpreted.

The civil rights icon issued a statement Saturday evening which said a "careful review" of his remarks made earlier in the day "would reveal that I did not compare Sen. John McCain or Gov. Sarah Palin to George Wallace."

McCain said Lewis' earlier statement was "a brazen and baseless attack" and called on Sen. Barack Obama to repudiate it.

Lewis had said earlier that he was "deeply disturbed by the negative tone of the McCain-Palin campaign" and that the Republican running mates are "playing with fire."

Where was Lewis when Obama was pushing this terror tactic?...

Obama: Get in Their Face! - INTIMIDATION gets the Green Light for "Unity" ticket

Hardcore Obama supporters are encouraged to fight with their neighbors if they don't support Barack Obama. In Barry Hussein's latest attempt to bring "unity" to the Untied States in the face of increased political polarity, his solution is to harass and "get in the faces" of those who do not agree with their politics.

"I need you to go out and talk to your friends and talk to your neighbors. I want you to talk to them whether they are independent or whether they are Republican. I want you to argue with them and get in their face," he said.

The request was made by Obama at a rally in Elko Nevada.

WALLACE WAS A DEMOCRAT, IIRC, AND HE RAN FOR PRESIDENT AS AN INDEPENDENT!

Mr. Lewis doesn't even know is history, or he would know that it was democrats that kept "his"people down all those years....the democrat party was the party of the KKK.

Probably received his education in the Government school system where anything but actual knowledge and history are taught..

This is just another way for the Obama camp et al to say that we are all bitter and clinging to our guns and religion. The McCain/Palin camp should be astute enough to see this and call Obama and the like out on the carpet for this...this race baiting and OBVIOUS hatred for Americans and their value system. McCain has a window to do this, especially since Obama DID NOT come out and repudiate Mr. Lewis’ statements. I say call a spade a spade.... put them all out on the carpet and highlight the true depots of racism in the US.

They just interviewed some college kids on campus who were unhappy with Obama’s tactics in getting out the vote. One of the girls said she was asked whether she had registered and she said yes and started to walk away but the Obama freakoids started following her and telling her to vote for him, finally, she and her friend had to run in order to get away from the terrorists tactics. What a disgrace the little commie, Obamie, is! The Obama supporters are pure evil.

“Misinterpreted and taken out of context” is one of the many commandments of the liberal left socialist. It seems we are made to believe that we are not smart enough to understand thier elite jargon. After they make thier racist moronic statement they always back it up with “misinterpreted or taken out of context” to cover for the original comment which they intended to say. YOU FOOL NO ONE! I guess it wasn’t hateful to run ads claiming that Bush was responsible for the Byrd dragging death and that if Bush were elected, more black churches would burn.

“I want you to argue with them and get in their face,” he said.”

Good point - Obama’s call to “get in their face” seems much more angry, hostile and inflammatory than anything coming from the McCain or Palin and is particularly disturbing that he has a government funded army of clipboard carrying people at ACORN to do his bidding.

Obama was employed by the domestic terrorist Bill Ayers for four years, yet I thought Palin was understated by characterizing this as “palling around.” Obama is in panic mode and inocuous surragates are irrelevent to the situation. If Lewis had any sense, he would be asking Obama how he intends to prosecute Bill Ayers if he were President.

a “careful review” of his remarks made earlier in the day “would reveal that I did not compare Sen. John McCain or Gov. Sarah Palin to George Wallace.”

******

Lewis said: “George Wallace never threw a bomb. He never fired a gun, but he created the climate and the conditions that encouraged vicious attacks against innocent Americans who only desired to exercise their constitutional right.”

He said McCain and Palin are “playing with fire, and if they are not careful, that fire will consume us all.”

Hope, Change and Molotov Cocktails

Authorities have arrested two men after a Molotov cocktail was thrown at a 4-foot by 8-foot campaign sign for Republican presidential candidate John McCain in a southeast Portland yard.

investigators picked up Leslie Brockette Leudtke and Kevin Carl Robinson, both 23. After interviewing them, the pair was charged with four counts each of manufacturing and possession of a destructive device. In addition, Leudtke was charged with a single count of reckless burning.

“Our whole house could have burnt down,” Karen Scrutton said while thanking her neighbor for intervening.

This is what McCain, or as Rush Calls him Yosemite Sam gets for saying John Lewis is someone who he would look to for advice.

I am sick of these loser liberals, THEY say stuff and it is ALWAYS that we “misinterpreted” it or took it out of context, our side says the truth and we are stirring up hate and racism! Un-f*cking believable!

I was in a STRAC unit at Fort Hood, Texas when we
were placed on alert.

In 1957 Governor Faubus, democrat Arkansas, Tried
to challenge President Eisenhower (Republican) and
the federal courts.

On the day before the school should have accepted a
number of African American students, Faubus ordered
270 National Guards troops to move into the Central
High School.
He argued that the troops were needed to maintain
law and order as the introduction of African Americans
youths to a white school could provoke trouble.
Therefore, his rationale for the troops being there
was the maintenance of social order.
In fact, their task was to keep out of the white
Central High School, nine African American students.

On the first day of the school year, the nine students
did not show up - on the advice of the school board.
On the second day, they arrived escorted by two white
ministers and two African American ministers.
They were stopped from entering by the National Guard.
s the students left, they were verbally abused by white
students and adults from Little Rock.
These scenes were captured on television and shown
throughout the world.
America was shocked at what it saw.
In this case, the camera could not lie.

Lewis was trying to use the comparison to Wallace to stir up fear and to slander McCain. It’s that simple.

Yeah, that’s the standard lame response. Won’t admit that he said it.

I hate watching this..I always respected John Lewis and believed, while way too liberal for me, he had integrity.

Reading his remarks and his “clarification” is like watching a mask being peeled away revealing an ugly, ugly soul hiding beneath.
