Fey's Palin parodies change political landscape (so when will the Obama parodies become OK?)
Denver Post ^ | 10/11/08 | Mario Correa

"They used kid gloves that had been polished down to nothing," he adds.

But that all changed the moment that more than 7 million viewers (and millions more online) watched a sweet-talkin', gun-cocking, pageant-waving Tina Fey perkily proclaim, "I can see Russia from my house!"

Katie Couric interviews vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin in New York. ( CBS News )Suddenly, the game had changed.

"The media could actually report on this skit done by 'SNL'," says Kathryn Pearson, who teaches political science at the University of Minnesota.

"They could play the clip, talk about it, and then that could become part of this national dialogue." And while Pearson doesn't pin Palin's subsequent, unflattering media coverage on Fey alone, she does think the Sept. 13 skit helped catalyze growing doubts at a critical juncture in the nominee's candidacy.

So I'm reading this with my morning coffee pondering the latest Obama lead of 6 point and then I wonder..."so when will SNL (or the wanna-be Hollywood hacks) begin this type of HUMOR on Barak"? You know so, the kid gloves can be removed to "begin the dialogue in the country about someone’s lack of a known record". I mean I'd like to hear discussions about things like his comments on abortion, Odinga, ACORN, Ayers, and maybe even those "prosecutions" his website had stated he was going to have his new AG begin on the past administration. Wouldn't it be nice if Hollywood took a similar concern for the Presidency that they apparently do for the VP position such that we can discuss the "growing doubts at a critical juncture in the nominee's candidacy"? Like Matt Damon is quoted at the articles end that idea would have to be "a Disney movie".

Dialogue? DIALOGUE?! They don’t need no stinkin’ dialogue!

You seem to be under the mistaken assumption that these pseudo-Marxists are actually *for* democracy

Do I have a bad memory, or was the MSM kinda maybe a little bit negative about Palin long before the sketch?

I hate it when media types pat eachother on the back for impacting things.

The criticism of Gov. Palin began about 5 mins. after Mac made the announcement.
And it hasn’t let up yet.
It’s going to be fun to see the expressions on the faces of these self-righteous blabbermouths on 5Nov.

OBAMA SHALL NOT BE PARODIED!! HIS INTELLECTUAL MIGHT AND PEACEFUL PRESCENCE WILL CALM THE FRIGHTENED WORLD!!! HE IS THE DELIVERER OF FLUFFY BUNNIES AND UNICORNS!!! HE WILL LOWER THE OCEANS AND HEAL THE SICK!!! BY HIS MERE GAZE HE WILL QUELL THE FINANCIAL STORMS!!!! PRAISE BE OBAMA, THE HOLY LAMB OF CHICAGO!!!!

This mindset is why SNL won’t parody Obama. Ok, I probably exaggerated a little,,,,,,I think! :-)

Remember the SNL skits during the democratic primaries?

The Hillary/Obama skits portraying Barack as the big-eared Alfred E. Neuman, afro-American candidate?

Where are they now?

Oh, never mind. Those skits are history. Let’s get back to the Palin/incest skits...

I think that the person Palin should be compared to is Biden. He is the Vice Presidential candidate. He needs to be made fun of as well. If SNL starts making fun of McCain then I agree Barak should be as well. Let's remember who Palin’s equivalent is...it is not Barak.

Why is this in “breaking” news?

Because "nobody" wants to hear about such "petty" stuff like ACORN fraud, Chicago corruption, Ayers/Dorhn associations, Odinga, shady financing, etc. Very simple.

I’m so disgusted with FoxNews right now I could scream. I tried to email them but it said servers were down. Maybe thats a good sign. Anyway they are going on and on about McCains supporters being mean and could this backfire on them. Where have they been the past 8 years?!! Where were they when Obama said get in their faces and argue with them. Man I am so mad!

Check out this video clip from SNL's Election Special (last Thursday). I was surprised they brought up Bill Ayers!

-snip- BHO actor: "My best friend and my mentor, former weather underground leader and unrepentant terrorist, William Ayers. I am telling you this now because I am so far ahead in the polls it won't matter." SNL had the CNN headline that read: Obama:Terrorist William Ayers is my best friend.

The Party media is as bad as Goebbels’ and Stalin’s propaganda machines. Of COURSE it is grist for the daily news. They want the electorate and especially their kids dumbed down.

Here is the transcript....

Sen. Barack Obama: [ throughout this answer, McCain wanders around the floor of the debate, crossing in and out of camera frame ] Anthony, you've hit the question. How do we as a people come together? So, let me tell you another story I've never shared before. One I left out of my second book. It's about a man I met many years ago in Chicago. And, uh, at first, I thought, we had almost nothing in common. But over the course of working together, year in, year out. Talking to each other, and most important, listening to each other, we became friends. Sharing not only that friendship, but our plans for this country's future. And that man -- my best friend, and my mentor -- is former Weather Underground leader, and un-repentant terrorist, William Ayers. Now, I'm telling you this because, I'm so far ahead in the polls right now, it's not going to matter.

Thanks for the link. Rush compared Ayers to Timothy McVeigh Friday. Hopefully “Joe six pack” will understand that analogy.
