No, he's just not very smart. There's a reason he graduated at the bottom of his class at the Naval Academy. And in light of his so-called maverick status, I'm guessing he does not listen to his advisors. The GOP hasn't fielded a worse candidate in my lifetime, and that includes Dole and HW who were horrible. I will vote for him simply because he is not Obama, but it will take every ounce of discipline I can muster to do so.

where did he say Obama would be a FINE president? I didn’t hear that. To say he is a decent person doesn’t sound out of line to me at all. I am sure Reagan thought of Carter as a decent person too...just very misguided.
