All along, I've been urging people to pay attention to the initiatives and referenda that are on the ballots. We saw in 2004 in OH, this is huge. In fact, in 2006, it's entirely possible that the anti-smoking initiative cost DeWine his seat---not that he was for or against it, but that it brought out a lot of Dem voters.

So, in CA there is an anti-gay-marriage initiative that is winning 2:1. Do you think McCain will pick up a lot of those voters? I do.

David Brooks seemed to me to make a good case that the gay marriage referenda didn’t make the difference for Bush. Have you seen his stuff, and if so, what’s your take. Mine at the time was that he made sense, because Michigan and Oregon both rejected Bush and gay marriage resoundingly.
