You’ll get your wish, because one thing the people in charge, at the state or national level, appear completely incapable of even considering is stopping or even amending the spending patterns leading us to bankruptcy.
I wouldn't bet on it. Some charismatic leader will come to the fore and tell them the problem is the greedy grapsing capitalist Republicans who need to be put into slave labor camps (to live separately but equally, though) for the public's safety.

Those morons are convinced that the state's financial problems can all be tied to Proposition 13, which prevents the state from raising taxes without a 2/3 supermajority, and prevents property taxes from increasing arbitrarily. It's all a revenue issue, you know.
Bankruptcy would prove them right, in their minds. They have said that spending is not the issue, revenue is the issue, many times.

That will only work if Wall Street gets to dictate the state's spending priorities and the Legislature no longer has any say.

A Los Angeles to San Francisco high-speed rail line will never come close to earning back its tremendous cost - they could build a couple more regional airports on either end for a lot less. Los Angeles to Las Vegas would have a better chance, but they need to try widening and increasing speed limits on I-15 first - that would also be much, much cheaper.
