McCain is pursuing the moderates and independents. He's not trying to appeal to the GOP base.

The Get Out The Vote and the fund raising effort just took a bullet. It may recover but it has been injured.

And ... he is not on the same page as his campaign staffers who are going after Obama with (almost) everything they have. He is sending one message and Sarah and the ads that are running are sending out a completely different and opposite message.
