All pupils at a primary school face being served halal meat at lunchtime whether they are Muslim or not, it emerged today.
Dale Primary, which has a large proportion of Asians among its 550 pupils, is consulting parents about the controversial move.
Under the plans pupils would only be offered Islamic-approved meals on days when meat is on the menu to 'avoid cross-contamination'.
For meat to be classified halal, a Muslim must have slaughtered the animal from which it came by a single cut to the throat and without stunning it first.
A prayer, including the words 'Allah is great', is said while single cut to the throat all the blood is drained.
The school, Derby's biggest primary, provides its own catering after opting out of the city council system.
Head teacher Linda Sullivan has written to parents, carers and staff asking them if the school should offer halal meat to pupils.

well there are ‘frum’ muslims who will only eat halal. But here where I live, there are muslim ‘ninja’ women who have no problem buying food from kosher supermarkets.
But this is not fair to vegetarians!

This is a government school? So the government is insisting on forcing students to follow the Muslim way???!!! Either remove your kids from this public trough, or WRITE, CALL OR EMAIL YOUR CONGRESSCRITTERS!
They're out protesting kosher slaughter because they know Jews won't kill them.

With halal meat the animal is slaughtered essentially the same way kosher is done, only they say a specific Muslim prayer when doing it ("thank you Allah for this food" or some such). It's not surprising since Islam is sort of a warped, regionalized copy of Judaism. Depending on who you talk to a Muslim could eat kosher, but he should say that prayer first to put the final cap on what is the same process.
Oh dear, I didn’t catch that this was in Britain! However, it could creep into our schools if we are not careful.
The apostle Paul mentioned the eating meat sacrificed to idols and told the Christians who questioned it that the meat was ‘okay’ (obviously not his words, but a paraphrase) to eat, but that to NOT eat it if doing so would offend weaker Christians.

The parents should sue this school immediately.
That would be cheper than having something special for each student. Meat is meat, regardless of how it’s slaughtered.
I thought it was just the opposite, that Paul said you were not to eat meat sacrificed to idols, but you could do so in the presence of weaker Christians who might not understand why you wouldn’t eat it, if it would offend them?

Okay, technically halal is anything not forbidden by the Quran (haram). So they're good if they keep away from pork and other haram foods. What they're really talking about is dhabihah, the ritual slaughter that is almost exactly the same as kosher (kashrut). In common speech people tend to just say halal.
But to your question, the throat is deeply cut with one quick slice severing every blood vessel, and the animal is allowed to bleed out.
After 9/11 my galpal and I did a little reconnaissance at a local Halal butcher shop. Hoo boy did we ever get some dirty looks from the you-know-whos behind the counter. I found it odd that they also sold the Koran. But the thing that really got me was how the place stunk of shi&. Serious shi&!

It is really time to end the public school/daycare system.
I feel like having a nice plate of ham and eggs. Or sausage.
