My 24 year old chose to listen to the debate rather than watch. As soon as Obama finished that statement, he said “that was Obama’s Dukakis moment.”
Obama spoke of his mother’s dying with the same detachment and lack of emotion that Dukakis displayed in discussing the hypothetical rape of his wife. He, in essence, put his mother in the same category as the unnamed “waitress in Iowa” that politicians always find simply to make his political point. It just doesn’t ring true.
I think the detachment masks HUGE amounts of anger — anger at a dad who abandoned him, anger at a step-father who did the same, anger at a mother with terrible judgement about men who shuttled her son back and forth without regard for his best interests...
Even a deep anger at the ONLY people who ever stepped up and did anything to help him — his affluent, elderly, white grandparents... with whom he desperately wants to get even.
Over time he has learned to surpress and mask his anger — but he does so with a phony intellectualism... he channels all of his anger into a nasty and desire for class warfare.
Honestly — he is a seriously damaged human being — and I am afraid he wants to make us all pay for the pain he has experienced in life.
Dukakis, Harvard Law, used to say his brother got killed by a hit and run drunk driver. He said this for years to the usual press dolts, Democrats. Until some stiff asked him if it was hit and run, how did he know the guy was drunk?
Anything for the cause.
Joe Biden, welsh coal miner, his poor welsh pony, ‘Checkers’ dying from the whips of the Republican mine owner all the while, one by one his wife and kids were being thrown out on the highway by KKK/NRA members who also were driving 18 wheelers while reading the Classics Illustrated edition of the New Testament.
