To: Gordon Greene

I dunno, I can forgive him his youthfull antiwar activism but I can’t forgive him “Midnight Cowboy.”

Not that there was anything wrong with his acting, it’s just that that set the tone for dark, depressing, degenerate movies as “authentic.”

Midnight Cowboy was no fault of John Voight. He was a young actor playing a role given him by scriptwriters and a director telling a story. A story about what can happen to a naive young man in a place like NY city. Voight played the role superbly, the story was raw and real. IMO, it really deserved the best picture Oscar for that year.
