Thank the good Lord for this. I spent half of yesterday answering good Repubs who were very upset about the the failure to attack in debate number two. Fortunately, I was able to recruit two volunteers out of it and hold the hands of the rest of the callers. But I really hate to waste my volunteer hours to reassure the base.

The problem is that we, the base, never should have let this fool win the nomination.

Obviously (to me) Thompson was only there as a favor to McCain to, originally, thwart Romney but it turned out he didn’t need him since Huckabee ended up doing the job but only too well. I have stood up for the so-called evangelical through years of smears by the left but I now think they are a problem in that we couldn’t get a solid conservative that could win (maybe Thompson did want it?) nominated. They only wanted Huckabee because he’s a “preacher”.

McCain is showing the problem in running a Senator that has been around since the big bang: too much bipartisan crap, compromising garbage, etc. to stand one way or another on issues.

So when he now, late in the game, starts “getting tough” no one believes it. I heard him today going after voter fraud and ACORN. The problem? As with almost any issue one has to ask, “gee Senator, you’ve been there for decades. Why didn’t you do something about explicit voter fraud before?” Answer: don’t want to be called a racist by his left wing buddies in DC.

Pitiful. Especially since if he wins and it’s close the Obama people are going to make the 2000 election aftermath look like a backyard picnic. They are talking riots again because you know they’ll scream disenfranchisment, etc.

If Palin had more experience and national exposure as governor then right now she’d be able to bring the Reagan coalition back in force and, this time, throw out the RINO’s (keep them out of the loop on everything and actually get someone to run against them in primaries - to hell with party unity) and keep the conservatives in line and able to EXPLAIN the issues.

Conservatives are AWFUL at doing this because they always start with the left wing’s point and end up Dem-lite.

This is why we are where we are today.
