PBS To Put ALBUQUERQUE in National Spotlight
Albuquerque Journal ^ | October 9, 2008 | Bruce Daniels

Town Hall meeting at UNM Continuing Ed to be broadcast live nationally from 3-4 p.m. Sunday. PBS' "The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer" will hold a Town Hall meeting in Albuquerque from 3-4 p.m. Sunday that will be broadcast live nationwide from the University of New Mexico Continuing Education Auditorium, the New Mexico Independent is reporting.

PBS will continue its spotlight on New Mexico through the following week, Oct. 13 through 17, with senior correspondents Ray Suarez and Judy Woodruff broadcasting from KNME studios in Albuquerque on the state's role in next month's presidential election, the Independent reported.

Albuquerque is only the second "Spotlight City" to be highlighted on "The NewsHour" -- the first was Pittsburgh in the spring, according to the Independent.

The live Town Hall topic is "What Role Will New Mexico and the Media Play in the Upcoming Presidential Election?"

TOPICS: News/Current Events; Politics/Elections; US: New Mexico
KEYWORDS: elections; mccain; newmexico; nm2008; obama; swingstates
Panelists include political science professors, High school teachers, "journalists" and of course, New Mexico's democrat gift to politics, Joe Monahan. And, I'm sure King Bill will be seen pontificating ad nauseum, once again showing NM to be a banana republic.

You really don't expect anything except an Obama-fest from PBS, do you?

Any chance some NM Freepers can crash the party?

"What Role Will New Mexico and the Media Play in the Upcoming Presidential Election?"

New Mexico citizens get to vote (hopefully only once)

The Media continues to lie

Winrock was cool when I lived there ... the Tram was just being built and I played 1st violin in the Grant Junior High Orchestra and drums in a garage band. Been a long time. ;o)

On another note, King Bill admits that Bubba is unhappy with him.

"Bill Richardson — famously called a ‘Judas’ by a Clinton loyalist for backing Barack Obama over Hillary Rodham Clinton in the contentious Democratic presidential primary — says he’s not concerned that Bill Clinton continues to hold a grudge against him.

“It could be pretty much a permanent fissure. But that’s politics, that’s OK,” Richardson told National Public Radio’s Renee Montagne in an interview that aired Thursday morning on "All Things Considered." “I did what I thought was best for the country. I’m still very fond of the Clintons. I’ve reconciled with her. But with him — he wants to keep a grudge, that’s fine with me. I move on. I’m governor of New Mexico. I’m happy where I am.”

Does that mean Bill, that you will spend more than 30 days a year in NM for the next two years? I hope not.

Richardson: ‘Permanent fissure’ with Bill

PBS won't take that left turn at Albuquerque either - because they can't go any farther left!

. . .New Mexico's democrat gift to politics, Joe Monahan. . .

PBS must be really ticked off at the Democrats this year. Giving Joe Monahan a national stage isn't going to help the DNC or their candidate.

I can't wait to be embarassed in front of the whole nation.

UNM is not New Mexico, It is North Korea.

Been quite some time since Winrock looked like that. For a few years Albuquerque was doing fine with three malls when Cottonwood opened up back in ‘97. When Montgomery Ward went out of business back in 2001(along with all the others when the entire company went bankrupt) gradually all the stores began to close up shop. I was last there maybe about three years ago, and there was only about fifteen stores opened, with one food court restaurant opened as well. Now I hear the only thing that is opened is Dillards and a Bed Bath and Beyond. Some of the stores such as Borders moved across the street to the new ABQ Uptown outdoor shopping plaza.

I think if Winrock wasn’t built so close to Coronado they would still been a major place to shop at.

Actually, according to my son McCain was warmly received on Monday at UNM and said there was only about twenty people attempting to picket McCain. He said most of the students simply ignored them.

My kids were still under my wing when I sent them to university.

Both of them went to NMSU, where the faculty and student nutball quotient was manageble.
