The DATE CERTAIN is as engraved a part of the Constitution as any other word. There is simply no alternative, no exceptions. We have no national election. This is a shared agreement between the states. There is no mechanism for a national vote. We elect Electors.
Once we go down that road, there's no going back. The Constitution of 1787-89 disappears into a puff of smoke.
