Palin’s husband, Todd, said in a sworn affidavit released Wednesday night that he never pressured the state’s public safety commissioner to fire Palin’s former brother-in-law, a state trooper who had divorced the governor’s sister.

Man, this is misleading. Initial paragaph:

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin remained in the dark while her husband repeatedly asked top state officials to help get his former brother-in-law kicked off the state police force, Palin's husband and top aides said in affidavits provided to The Associated Press.

And later, this is what the AP says:

He told them emotional stories about Wooten threatening and emotionally abusing his family. He said he talked to anyone who would listen. He gave them photos and documents, which they forwarded to others in the administration, and he questioned how Wooten kept his job.

That is not asking state officials to kick Wooten off the state highway patrol. The NPR report I heard today on the radio said the affadavits indicate that Todd did NOT pressure state officials. Your CNN link backs up the NPR story.

So the AP is lying here, and they cannot substantiate their claim in the first paragraph - but how many people go past the first couple of paragraphs, let alone grasp the subtle but significant difference between the two? That's the entire point.
