Jarome Iginla. One of the best in the NHL right now.
First black Captain of an NHL team.

As a New Jersey Devils fan I’ve hated the Flyers for years, but I’ve always given them grudging respect because they’re one of the few NHL teams other than the “Original Six” whose fan support is so strong that they consistently sell out even in years when they aren’t too good.

A friend of mine called me last year to report that he almost gone run over by Jarome Iginla in his Cadillac Escalade while he was crossing a street in downtown Calgary a few years ago. LOL!
For some reason I think Iginla is half Canadian, half Nigerian. I may be wrong about that.
He's definitely one of the top players in the NHL right now. My kind of player, too . . . a talented scorer who can play a physical game, too.

First black Captain of an NHL team. Just goes to show you how ridiculous it can be when we try to define "black" in today's world.
Iginla is mixed-race, and he's only considered the first black captain of an NHL team if you don't consider former Chicago Blackhawk Dirk Graham "black" enough (I believe one of his parents was mixed-race, but he looked about as "black" as Grant Fuhr).

That’s right . . . the best “tough” goal-scorer in NHL history!

LOL. I've never seen that one before.
One of the unusual things about the NJ Devils is that almost all of their greatest moments relate to one player -- and they have nothing to do with great offensive plays, either.

Bernie Saunders and I have played golf together a couple of times, he was surprised when I knew that he was a black NHL player. His brother is the guy on ESPN and The (liberal) Sports Reporters.

I love Stevens, and all his hits, but I have to admit that I felt sorry for Lindros when Stevens hammered him in that playoff game. The play was offside, and the whistle blew, but it was still a clean hit. Of course, Lindros had a penchant for skating with his head down....

Who remembers Peter Worrell-LW -One of the most feared hockey players in the NHL. Wasn’t the fastest or the best, but go could he fight. Always was a crowd pleaser.

Too bad she couldn’t drop the puck for the Red Wings home opener to be broadcast nationally on Versus tomorrow.

Political correctness and affirmative action are alive and well in the NHL.
