It's hopeless. John McCain has morphed into a reincarnation of Bob Dole. I've been getting eerie flashbacks of 1996 for months now.

And you know what? With all of McCain's socialist tendencies, I'm not all that disappointed. We were better off when Carter won in 1976 because it set us up for Reagan's win in 1980. Maybe 2012 will be another 1980. Chances are pretty good that an Obama presidency will be about as ineffectual as a Carter presidency.

I just hope it won't be more costly to the country.
