The US has reacted angrily after a judge ordered that 17 Chinese Muslims held at Guantanamo Bay should be released into the United States.
District Judge Ricardo Urbina said the US could not hold the 17 as they were no longer considered enemy combatants.
The Uighurs (WEE'gurz) were cleared for release in 2004 but the US says they may face persecution if returned to China.
The White House said the ruling could set a precedent that would allow "sworn enemies" to seek US entry.
The government says the 17 also pose a security risk if released into the US.
Lawyers for the Bush administration have argued that federal judges do not have authority to order the release into the US of Guantanamo detainees.
Analysts say the ruling is a rebuke for the US government and could set the stage for the release of dozens more detained at the military jail in Cuba.

Release them into the Judges custody and make him personally civilly and criminally libel for anything they do in the US. That way he takes responsibility for his decision.

Judge Urbina should be held personally responsible if any realeased prisoner conducts a terror activity inside the US. That includes any prisoners that use this potential precedent to be freed in the US.

It’s hard to see why the Uighurs would have any beef with the US. Their predicament is similar to that of the Tibetans and their enemy is China.

I agree....send them to China. Our country has run the full gammit. During WWII, we imprisoned Japanese and Germans because we were at war. Today, we release prisoners from Gitmo on our own soil.....in DC no less....our nations capital. Has our country gone completely nuts?

One word: Islam. Nations and ideologies (other than religion) don't matter in this war. This is jihad. We are infidels. So are the Chinese.
That would be my preference. Sending them back to China would probably work too, though. Unlike Britain, Germany, Saudi Arabia and other places, Chinese terrorists returned home are unlikely to see the outside of a prison.
