SPRINGFIELD, Ill., Oct. 7 (UPI) -- Democratic U.S. presidential nominee Barack Obama awarded grants as an Illinois state legislator to a nonprofit headed by a relative of his wife, records show.
The two grants totaling $75,000 were awarded in 1999 and 2000 to a Chicago social services organization led by Capers Funnye, a Jewish rabbi who is a cousin, once removed, of Michelle Obama, The Springfield (Ill.) State Journal- Register reported Tuesday.
Funnye told the newspaper there was nothing improper about the way his group, Blue Gargoyle, obtained the grants and that Obama did not encourage him to apply for the funds to provide job training and tutoring for high school for dropouts on Chicago's South Side.
He denied using family connections to pressure Obama, then an Illinois state senator, to approve the application, the State Journal-Register reported.
"State Sen. Obama joined other legislators in securing funding for a well- established social services agency in his district that provided job training, employment counseling and alternative education programs to approximately 1,200 Chicago residents each year," campaign spokesman Ben LaBolt said.
Obam_ahhh is nothing but a taxpayer ATM for his friends!

Capers is the rabbi of the mostly African-American 200 member Beth Shalom B’nai Zaken Ethiopian Hebrew Congregation of Chicago, Illinois.
They call themselves the black Jews and their beliefs are a mixture of African-American influences and “ traditional “ Judaism.
I’m not Jewish, but, have attended my share of Bat and Bar Mitzvahs and weddings held in synagogues.
I’ve yet to witness “a chorus singing spirituals to the beat of a drum “
like at Michelle Obama’s cousin’s temple.
They’re Jewish like Kosher-style a BLT on a Bagel. Gimme a break.
So how exactly are they related?
Except that if a Repbulican is "patronized" then it's a faux crime. Democrat patronization is expected and applauded no matter what conflicts of interest exist.
That’s what I said. All patronage is a conflict of interest...it’s called the “Spoils of War”. Republicans get indicted for it.
He got a million dollars of our tax money for his wife’s employer. When questioned about it, he admitted it was a mistake and said not that it was wrong, but that he should have had Dick Durbin do it.
It’s the Chicago Way. Trouble is, Chicago aint the only place they do it.
He is not Jewish, but is a leader o a black cult that has taken on some Jewish practices
