I knew Cafardi when he was an assistant Dean at the University of Pittsburgh School of Law. He was the Diocese of Pittsburgh’s foremost canon lawyer and, other than the occasional bout with narcolepsy, seemed a reasonable guy. I find support for Obama not in character. The academic seems to have overcome the canon lawyer in him.

He's a relative of mine, and I have (had) the same opinion of him. In fact, he was one of the leading canon lawyers responsible for the new code of canon law. My wife and I were shocked when we heard about his support for Obama. It does seem out of character. I was wondering what Franciscan's reaction was going to be.

24 For false Christs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and miracles to deceive even the elect—if that were possible.

There is always a way back.
