Then-State Senator Alice Palmer announced to those gathered at the Ayers/Dohrn residence that she was stepping down to make a run for Congress and introduced Obama as her chosen successor.

What they didn't say is taht she lost an election and then had her candidacy for her old seat thrown out by a legal challenge by none other than Obama. You see, she had served her purpose, so he threw her under the bus and stuck the knife in her back.

“I liked Alice Palmer a lot,” Obama would say later. “I thought she was a good public servant. It (the process by which Obama got Palmer off the ballot) was very awkward. That part of it I wish had played out entirely differently.”
