I think the McCain campaign held off on the Wright/Ayers comparison to be sure they had gathered all the facts, and checked and re-checked their sources...and to put it out there just before the election - leaving little doubt of the truths exposed.
I doubt they had counted on the Fannie/Freddie economic crisis erupting just at the same time they had planned their attack on Obama's "associates." That has been the unfortunate timing. (I actually believe the Democrats had something to do with this crisis situation coming before the public just now, in order to advance Obama's candidacy, but that's gut feeling...for now).
Anyway I think the campaign had set all in motion to release in Oct. and it would have had much more impact had we not had the economic crisis. So now, there are the two issues: Obama and his past history and unsavory bedfellows...and the Fannie Mac/Freddie Mac situation.
I just hope they cleverly tie them together as they should, considering Obama having received the Democrat second highest payments from Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac and he had only been in the Senate TWO YEARS!
Thus, his "connections" to the crisis are just as suspicious as his anti-American, hate-mongering, terrorist connections.
Does this man have any friends who aren't shady, seedy, scam artists? Everyone who Obama has associated with seems to have been painted with the same brush.
Agreed.
The other risk the whole Ayers/Wright line of attack is the perception that Palin is ignoring the HUGE issues in the economy and the financial system, and attempting to distract voters. Obama will counter with lines like “McCain/Palin have no answer on the economy, and they are engaging in personal attacks during a financial crisis”. The media will aid and abet this.
This is why I think a Franklin Raines/Jim Johnson/Fannie/Freddie/ACORN line of attack would be much more effective. I don’t want Sarah to be damaged for future elections.
