This is not about hurt feelings. The change BC to BCE (before Common Era) and AD to CE (Common Era) has been used for at least four decades as far as I know.

It is partially a Jewish reaction to the events of the last 70 years, both the misery and the restoration. If you have any Christian turn-the-cheek tolerance, just translate to your terms, and we will translate to ours while avoiding (but not forgetting) 1900 years of involved history.

Yup, PC silliness. PC didn’t start yesterday. There is history back to something like the 1600s for use of Common Era, however the standard recognized term for much longer was BC and AD. Deal with it.
