To: Gopher Broke

Is there a reason why a solidly red (well, formerly at least) red state couldn’t throw someone more qualified than Jim Gilmore to keep this senate seat? Gilmore was trailing by 30 pts before he won the primary, why did the GOP go with this guy?!

This is one of the biggest misconceptions on this forum. Virginia is not and has not been a solidly red state. Not by a longshot. It's a reliable GOP vote Presidentially, but for other races? Forget it. It's purplish blue.
