Canada's parliamentary elections entered the home stretch Friday with the start of three days of advance voting ahead of the main polling day on October 14.

Elections Canada -- the independent federal agency that oversees the voting process -- said those who need to cast their ballots early could do so on Friday, Saturday or Monday.

Tuesday was meanwhile the deadline for putting one's name onto the electoral list.

It would be nice if the Canadian Conservatives did win a majority, they are our largest trading partner by far.

The Liberals have to worry about populous vote rich Ontario. There the Conservatives are leading them. That may compensate for the Bloc surge in Quebec.

Bloc Quebecois?

They are an odd group.

I’d think the fact that Dion is running an openly “Green” Campaign would crush him in Western Canada?

Stephane Dion's only accomplishment may be to make the hapless John Turner look good. If the Liberals fall into third place - they'll be looking for a new leader soon if Jack Layton's New Democrats over take them. Canada has three left wing parties but fortunately for Stephen Harper, the Left has split up its votes three ways so none of them will get to a majority. Its the reverse of the situation from 1993 to 2004 when a divided Right saw the Liberals win three successive majority governments. It may take awhile for the Liberals to find themselves again. Canada's once Natural Governing Party has a big rebuilding job ahead of it, a job made even bigger if its not the official Opposition in the next Parliament.

The Bloc represents Quebec only and is not a factor in the rest of Canada. Dion has touted an unpopular carbon tax at a time when people are worried about the economy. He looks like the dork he is and is just plain clueless about Canadian politics.

Canada is a massive carbon producer and exporter, that twit Dion is proposing nothing less then killing the Petro Goose..

Last polls I read showed Harper’s govt not quite gaining a full majority in the Parliament, have any new polls emerged?

The Bloc is doing well in Quebec?

In the last national elections, the Conservatives won a number of seats in that province, mostly at the expense of the Bloc.

In Quebec’s 2007 provincial elections the ADQ won a number of seats at the expense of the Liberals and the Parti Quebecois.

I was thinking that maybe Quebec was starting to turn away from its socialistic nationalist tendencies.

Maybe not...

Yep.

The Conservatives need about 40%. They could do it with less if the Liberals fall under 25%. Its not looking looking good because Dion is just an awful campaigner with a political tin ear. And he's not exactly telegenic.

The Conservatives should do well in Quebec's rural hinterland. The BQ will take the French speaking medium sized cities and Quebec City and the Liberals should hold onto the island of Montreal. If the Conservatives can win 25 in Quebec, it would be a good night. The BQ should take 45 and Liberals will take the rest.

The local tory office has called my house 3 times “reminding” us about the early polls.

After PM Harper’s gaffe regarding abortion, I am torn.
