A DAY IN THE LIFE OF PRESIDENT BUSH...10/04/08, 10/05/08

President Bush delivered his weekly radio address today. The subject was, once again, the economy.

The President and First Lady are spending the weekend at their ranch in Crawford TX. Today, they took a short trip to Midland TX where they visited his boyhood home. They also attended a barbecue fund raiser for several Texans running for Congress.

US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice held talks Saturday in India on a visit to showcase a landmark bilateral nuclear deal, but last-minute hitches derailed the scheduled signing of the pact.

Enjoy your visit to Sanity Island

TALK ABOUT BEING IN THE RIGHT PLACE AT THE RIGHT TIME:

Jeff Stevens wrote on Oct 5, 2008 10:50 AM:

” Being in the right place at the right time! As good luck would have it my daughter and I were in town for a tennis tournament and decided to visit President Bush’s childhood home. What a great decision that turned out to be! Much to our surprise while we were in the home -the President and the First Lady came walking in (along with numerous Secret Service agents). It was an experience that we will never forget! The president’s photographer took pictures and I am looking forward to framing them to remember this once in a lifetime event!”

COURT PICKS DEFINE BUSH
326 appointees could shape US society for years
By Dan Horn

DOWNTOWN - President Bush visits Cincinnati on Monday to discuss what he hopes will be one of his most enduring legacies: the judges he’s appointed to the federal courts.

. . . Bush has appointed 326 judges - more than one-third of the federal judiciary - and most share his conservative philosophy on issues ranging from abortion to the death penalty to affirmative action.

“His judicial appointments have drastically changed the legal landscape,” said Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters, a Republican and outspoken advocate for conservative judges. “It may be his greatest legacy.”

. . . Ten of the nation’s 13 circuit courts, including the U.S. 6th Circuit Court of Appeals in Cincinnati, have majorities appointed by Republican presidents. Those judges are among the most powerful in the country because the only court that trumps them is the U.S. Supreme Court, which also shifted to the right under Bush.

Conservatives say Bush’s two Supreme Court appointees, Chief Justice John Roberts and Justice Samuel Alito, are by far his most significant.

Both are young by Supreme Court standards - Roberts is 53 and Alito is 57 - and have proven to be reliably conservative, unlike some of the justices chosen by Reagan and the first President Bush.

I was surprised it (Bush childhood crib) was so modest, it being in TX and all.

During the campaigns of 2000 and 2004, pictures of Midland were taken from the air and current, showing many backyard swimming pools. It was not in the DBM's interest to let people know that GWB lived a modest lifestyle, attending the neighborhood elementary school, when he was a child.

They always said that he was from Connecticut...duh, his parents lived in graduate student housing when he was born. Thank you for the beautiful pictures every day.
