GOP dread: Dems could hit 60 Senate seats By: Jim VandeHei and Mike Allen October 4, 2008 05:23 PM EST
The possibility that Democrats will build a muscular, 60-seat Senate majority is looking increasing plausible, with new polls showing a powerful surge for the partys candidates in Minnesota, Kentucky and other states.
A poll out Friday shows Sen. Norm Coleman could now easily lose his Minnesota seat to comedian-turned-candidate Al Franken. A Colorado race that initially looked like a nail-biter has now broken decisively for the Democrats. A top official in the McCain camp told us Sen. Elizabeth Dole is virtually certain to lose in conservative North Carolina.
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky has seen his race tighten dangerously close over the past weekand Democrats are considering moving more money into the state very soon. And there is even talk that Republican Sen. Saxby Chambliss is beatable in conservative Georgia after backing the economic bailout package opposed by many voters.
Before the economic crisis, we had a number of races moving our way, said Matthew Miller, communications director of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee. But now were seeing Republican numbers plummet. GOP officials largely agree.

So Dirty Harry and 9% Nan’s con game worked, and these GOP “go along to get alongs” took the bait hook, line, and sinker!
‘Republican Sen. Saxby Chambliss is beatable in conservative Georgia after backing the economic bailout package opposed by many voters.’
Duh.
If this is true, the Democrats have two options.
1. Give everything they have promised and drive the US into Bankruptcy.
2. Somehow blame the republicans for everything.
Why do I think both will happen?
Actually they don’t even need 60, what with so many of the GOP senators never having a taste for a fight. Wouldn’t want to violate the “comity of the Senate” and “work in a bipartisan way”, dontcha know.....
What they don’t win (by illegal voting) they will gain by “flip” like jumpin’ Jim Jeffords (enemy DUmocrats within the GOP). When they lose by votes, they attempt to gain by manufactured (by DNC operatives) lawsuits....just ask Tom Delay.
The Coleman poll showing him behind is totally bogus, go to http://www.powerlineblog.com to see why. The day before it was released, a reputable Survey USA poll had Coleman up by 10.
On one side you have a party of socialists and on the other side you have a party of socialist lite. LOL
“dems could hit 60 senate seats”
that’s really great. think of all the power the democrats will have to overcome the policies of those evil republicans. they’ll be able to create a heaven on earth without the danger of a veto from a republican president. best of all, if obama wins, they’ll be able to legislate without the slightest problem from any opposition. imagine the wonderful world that would be; no republicans, no conservative talk radio, no oil, no rich people, lots of money to spend on infrastructure and programs needed by the people. ah, what a wonderful dream!!! democrats with veto-proof majorities everywhere and obama in the white house.
Oh! praise!!!
Even worse, if this happens, it will be the result of “stay home conservatives” “teaching a lesson” by, objectively, voting for the worst, most vile, elements in our political arena.
This, of course, will be spun by dimmedia as a “victory for progressives”.
With 60, they will be able to do ANYTHING they want.
They might even give Obama an Enabling Act to legislate by decree.
The Courts? No problem - the Dems of today won’t stand in the way of court packing the way they stopped FDR’s go at it.
What if McCain says that the Democrats may have legislative control of the Senate, but Palin will be there each day the Senate in session to exercise her Constitutional powers?
Would that mean that Palin would have control of the gavel? Even if she can't normally vote, and she can't set the agenda, she can preside over the parliamentary process. That's got to be a big advantage for Republicans.

Pipe dreaming propaganda by leftists Allen and Politico.
Dole, Coleman, Chambliss, and McConnell will win. Take it to the bank. Total BS.
A lot of liberal Republicans don’t dread it.
They like the idea of being in the minority, and just being bipartisan and cooperative.
Of course those liberals who actually lose their seats won’t be happy.
No question that we lose seats. I don’t think it gets to that point though.
Voters take it out on the Presidents party.
“This, of course, will be spun by dimmedia as a victory for progressives.’
Or a referendum for “Change” ((SHUDDER))
Reminds me of 1994 when Clinton gave Congress to the Republicans. Now Bush is handing congress to the Democrats. The difference is the Democrats will actually act like they’re in charge. I doubt we’ll see them playing nice the way McCain and company did.
