Just saw the first showing of An American Carol; was expecting it to be pretty funny. Actually it was laugh out loud hilarious! And a good positive message, too! I urge you to see it.
As you could tell from the ads, Kevin Farley plays a Michael Moore-like director, Michael Malone. He is recruited by some terrorists to make a training film. He is haunted by ghosts such as JFK, Gen. Patton (Kelsey Grammer), the Angel of Death (Trace Adkins), and George Washington (Jon Voight). Washington shows him the church he used to pray at when New York City was the nation's capitol. Across the street...Ground Zero.
JFK shows him how we should "pay any price, bear any burden" for freedom. Patton shows him war is sometimes necessary--if we hadn't fought the Civil War, we might still have slavery!
The film shows us "the Real America" and the price we have to pay for freedom. There are tons of sight gags and physical humor (think Three Stooges, or the "Airplane" films director David Zucker gave us). The film spoofs A Christmas Carol and shows the folly of Malone trying to ban July 4th. Can he learn the error of his ways?
Anyone who enjoys "Airplane"-like humor will surely like it. (And stop calling me Shirley.) I wonder if libs will attend (after all, that evil Bill O'Reilly is in this...one scene shows Malone and comic "Rosie O'Connell" appearing on O'Reilly's show--and "O'Connell" unleashes a hilarious bit about Christian terrorists. Yes, we wouldn't have to go through airport security if those priests hadn't hijacked those planes!
See it!
And don’t forget Jon Voight as George Washington. That was a very powerful scene. Jon Voight is a GREAT actor. All of the characters were likable (even Michael Malone) and the situations were amusing but at times it relied too much on sight gags and the kids cussing..lol. I love Leslie Nielson and wish he had more of an active role instead of being the narrator. Kevin Farley did a great job and of course Kelsey Grammer was top drawer. The actress doing Rosie did a great job and that and the Moovealong.org award show with the Leni Reifenstahl Award were my favorite scenes. I’m no fan of Paris Hilton but she looked really pretty in that scene.
That is probably the prettiest that she’s ever looked. She really looked “HOT”.
We went to the 5:20 pm showing after work in Springfield, Missouri. The theater was packed, cept for the front row.
I felt like I was watching a movie with my Freeper peeps!
Before the movie started, there was a short Kid Rock/Dale Earnhardt video about the National Guard to the song “Citizen Warrior.” (I think that’s the title). The entire audience clapped for it.
My guess is the projectionist is a liberal, cuz the film broke four times and the audio was screwed up. Coincidence? I think not.
The movie was funny, but it was also very moving in some places. It showed NO MERCY on liberals...the funniest parts were about college campuses and the ACLU.
Here’s the best reasons to see it: It will make you feel good sitting in a theater with a bunch of other conservatives watching something we’d never thought we’d see: A film that celebrates America, the REAL America.
The audience applauded for several minutes when it was over.
Go see it. You’ll feel good and the people who made this film deserve our support.
Kelsey Grammer was remarkably good as Gen. Patton. Chriss Anglin stepped up to the plate as JFK (that's Kennedy), and Robert Davi was a surprisingly believable terrorist. Kevin Farley was too nice to play Michael Malone Moore.
Good movie. It's been a long, long time since we went to the theater. I hope lots of conservatives attend the film this weekend to help the important first weekend ratings.

Funny. Up here in the northeast (New Hampshire) we saw the “W.” film trailer (Oliver Stone GWB hit piece) before the movie. There were about 15 people at the 6:20PM showing.
I wish you could have had the same experience we had.
Saw the 7:15pm show in the Upper West Side of Mahattan. There were about 30 people in the audience. We laughed SO hard! The jokes just kept coming, including in the middle. I have to see it again! I suggest people who see it vote it highly on IMDB to refute the inevitable lib efforts to make it look bad.
The stupid peace chanters and the college professors were great. Besides the silly chants, it was neat to hear them chanting “Peace now! Don’t care how!” It was a great message film to explain the need for the WOT. The “Rosie O’Connell” character was a real hoot, too. And so was... oh, I’m just going to recount the whole movie, so just go see it!
Well, Mr. sneakers and I thoroughly enjoyed this movie!! Lots of middle-aged/older people, but also families and teenagers. Theater wasn’t full but still lots of people.
It is refreshingly UN-politically correct!!! A real breath of fresh air, though I could have done without the kids swearing!
I agree that the first ten minutes was hilarious! Then it slowed down a bit with lots of hearty yucks and chuckles here and there. (loved the scenes with the aging hippie professors and the terrorist Christians!) The audience laughed and clapped when Michael Malone said (I’m paraphrasing because I can’t remember exactly) “Hollywood. Yeah, lets go there. Hollywood HATES America!” Then it got pretty serious. John Voight was fantastic as Geo. Washington! The G. Washington scene was very moving. At the Trace Adkins concert, it really made your heart swell when Michael Malone looked out into the audience and saw all of the soldiers down through the centuries standing there. Finally, I cried at the part where they went to the nephew’s ship and I saw all those sailors! My son is stationed in Japan and I haven’t seen him in over a year, so it was kind of hard seeing all the sailors boarding their ship.
At the end, the audience really clapped!
You won’t see this movie at the oscars, but that doesn’t matter. This little movie has a bigger, more important message, and I hope that, even if it doesn’t bring in the mega-bucks at the box office, it’s message gets into homes all across America as people buy the DVD and their kids see it. Hopefully, the message will sink in.
Now - I wonder how the muzzies will like it!
And do we really care? ;-)
We just got home from watching it. Probably the best thing about this movie was being in a theater full of quiet, normal, polite people.

The director, David Zucker, was on the Howie Carr show today and he said it was quite possible that the people who USUALLY go to the movies will decide to catch that anti-religion
film Bill Maher is doing, and decide to “rent the American Carol DVD when it comes out”. Younger people, people who usually go to movies.
The people seeing that first show today in Danvers MA
seemed middle aged or slightly older, a polite,
respectful audience.
Was there an extra bit after the credits? I usually do
but I just stayed till the list of the cast (oh, so
that was Fred Travalena as Jimmy “Higher Taxes are GOOD
For You!” Carter? Ah) but I figured that was it. Well maybe I’ll see that bit if I catch it again or on DVD.
I will DEFINITELY get the DVD.

Of course, a lib columnist hates it. I saw it and thought it was hilarious! Yes, it puts down libs but does so with the same zany sense of humor Zucker used in Airplane! and Naked Gun. Also a deep respect for our soldiers and a celebration of what’s good about America. Hopefully Hollywood will not turn into “bin Laden City”, or has it?

Good. I don't like O'Reilly, but it's refreshing to see a movie that isn't so pretentious as to try to "convert hearts and minds." I don't watch movies to be converted, I watch them to be entertained, especially comedies. If they're funny and if I happen to be in the choir, so much the better.

In the tradition of George Carlin, Lenny Bruce or Richard Pryor, what makes this movie so funny is its willingness to speak the obvious truths no one else will say.
This movie is a crippling blow for the leftist Hollywood which attempts to silence all other points of view. I went to the 7:30 pm showing last night (Friday). It was a good size crowd. About 75 or 80 per cent of the average sized theater was full. The crowd was appreciative of the whole flick. The most uproarious laughter came when the ACLU zombie-lawyers were being blasted with shotguns and rifles. Also, the bit about the “fanatical Christian terrorists” drew a big response. Bottom line — I liked the movie.
Here is something that both ticked me off and amused me at the same time. Prior to the show, there were only 2 trailers of coming features shown. They were “W” and “Frost/Nixon” — two rabidly anti-conservative hit pieces posing as true-life dramas and not satire or parody. Someone had obviously made a conscious decision to cram such bile down the throats of the audience who they knew would be mainly conservatives. The only response from the crowd was mild laughter at the obvious ploy.
