Senator Biden said the following during the 10/2/08 VP Debate:
And it didn't take me long -- it was hard to change, but it didn't take me long, but it took about five years for me to realize that the ideology of that judge makes a big difference. That's why I led the fight against Judge Bork. Had he been on the court, I suspect there would be a lot of changes that I don't like and the American people wouldn't like, including everything from Roe v. Wade to issues relating to civil rights and civil liberties.

I recall when Palin called him out on one of them, regarding the statement allegedly made by the commanding US officer in Afghanistan today to the effect that a surge wouldn't work there.
You hit the nail on the head when you said Biden “opened himself up” when he mentioned ideology as an important consideration for the Senate in deciding whether to confirm or reject judicial nominees. In fact, one can consider it a gaffe of sorts that he even chose to bring up that subject without any prompting from Ifill. I don’t think it plays very well with voters as a whole, and it reminds people that judicial nominees are at stake in this election, an issue that on balance probably works in favor of the GOP.
I agree I think he meant Bork would overturn it, but that is the same thing they said about every conservative judge appointed. That is the battlecry to scare those who don’t want to be “burdened with a baby”.
My liberal mother-in-law was on the phone a few minutes ago with her usual "Palin's going to ban abortions", "she has a funny accent", "she would be a heartbeat away from the presidency". The MSM has burned all these into the minds of their followers.
Palin “has a funny accent”? I don’t think that she has any particular regional accent at all. Well, maybe that’s because I don’t know any Alaskans.
My MIL subscribes to the NYT and the LAT, only watches CNN and hangs with very liberal people (many of which are household names). She and her friends are the least tolerent people on the planet when it comes to people who don't think exactly like them (or sound "funny").
They all sound like the robots repeating the same line. Of course you can’t say it too her but it would have been to say “you aren’t pregnant are you if you are we will adopt it”
She's 92, so getting pregnant would indeed be interesting!
I think the guy's a git but even I know that.
You must have more than your share of MIL problems. (LOL!)
My dad would have been 98 and just never got that the Democrat Party had changed and just wasn’t the party of the people as it had been in his youth! Gets harder to change as you get older.
Oddly, she likes me a lot (but hates most men). She has a love/hate think going on with my wife (her daughter) though, and that's always rough. I do have to bite my tongue though sitting through dinners with her pals like Huffington, Allred, and various other uber-liberals.
