Well, when you dont file a flight plan... Hardly anyone files a flight plan for that type of flying.

Plane disintigrated on impact. No way he walked away from that. As far as the body, it’s been a year since he crashed. Likely nothing left but scattered bones. Once you’re dead you’re just carrion.

Bears and mountain lions up that way, Ive read.Mosquitoes, too.
The odds of his surviving and being killed by a predator are slim. The odds of his dying and being dragged off by scavengers are high.

I can understand not filing if you know you’re flying from Reno to Vegas, and your friends know as well. If you were to go down someone has an idea of your destination, and you may be easier to find (terrain and weather notwithstanding). However, if you know you’re going to be checking out 3 or 4 areas in all directions, a basic plan may be helpful to searchers. However, I am not a pilot, so will bow to your expertise.

If he survived then the bears/mountain lions got him. He could not survive a crash like that UNLESS he parachuted out before it happened. Just guessing ... he had financial problems and the plane hit the mountain head on ... it is a possibility he staged it and bailed out before the crash. OR he was caught by surprise, crashed, crawled out and the animals got him.

If he survived then the bears/mountain lions got him. Not very likely.

....he had financial problems and the plane hit the mountain head on...Plane crashes like this are not uncommon in that area. My father-in-law and his brother have scoured that range over the years searching (and finding) plane crash sites including B-17's flying out of the Tonopah Air Base (an old WWII B-17 training base).

The call came last night. A story from a friend about hiker Preston Morrow, who was on a difficult trek in the mountains off trail above Mammoth Lakes California near the area of Minaret Lake and Minaret Mine. Another photo.
