Know this candidate, Nina Ashenafi Richardson?

...............................

She was the first African-American president of the Tallahassee Bar Association, in 2004-05. During her presidency, the Terri Schiavo controversy motivated Ms. Ashenafi Richardson's initiative, in concert with the Florida Bar, on living wills and advanced directives. Volunteers helped prepare living wills for people in the community as a result....

What liberals hate...

We have gone through that emotion with our own son and with people who glared at us in unbridled disgust that we had not killed him at birth. It has the interesting effect of unmasking the dark side of people who otherwise would pass unnoticed as friends or at least not adversaries. Sarah Palin will continue to unmask these closet dark emotions as little Trig grows, regardless of the outcome of this election. God bless this woman and little Trig who is unmasking the evil left and left simply by being.

Thread by wagglebee.

......................................

The facts are daunting. It is now estimated that between 80 and 90 percent of all unborn babies diagnosed as likely to have Down syndrome are aborted. The availability of prenatal testing presents parents with the possibility of aborting the baby and starting over. The statistics now speak for themselves - the vast majority of parents are choosing to abort under these circumstances.

But the visible presence of Trig Palin in the arms of his parents or one of his sisters is resetting that equation, at least in terms of the public's emotions. The sight of little Piper Palin licking her hand and flattening Trig's hair during their mom's acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention is likely to stick in the public mind years after Trig's hair is again unstuck. It's hard for even the most ardent abortion defenders to insert an argument against Trig's precious life at that point. Or, at least we would think so...........

Sprinting from the crime scene, tossing the bloody Birkenstocks in the dumpster, slipping on fresh flip flops, and dashing for cover...

Thread by wagglebee.

.....................................

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- A leading pro-life group says Barack Obama is flip-flopping on abortion -- not by changing his position but by changing his approach to talking about it. National Right to Life says Obama and his campaign touted his pro-abortion record in the primaries and now is running from it as the election draws near.

Douglas Johnson, longtime legislative director for the National Right to Life Committee, tells LifeNews.com that the Obama campaign and its allies have adopted a strategy to mislead pro-life voters about his extensive pro-abortion record.

"The scam depends on the Obama campaign, with cooperation from the mainstream news media, deflecting attention away from Obama's actual record, and from his extensive commitments to pro-abortion interest groups," Johnson said.............

Biden time in a thread by Salvation.

Thanks, narses, for the ping. Where the media enjoys the love-in with the Obamunist and the chia pet with BO, perhaps the Catholic Church can open many eyes and cast off some hoodwinks and see this merchant of death team for what it is.

...................................

Responding to a question from Meet the Press Moderator Tom Brokaw, Biden stated that he agreed with the Catholic Church that life begins at conception. He then continued, "I'm prepared as a matter of faith to accept that life begins at the moment of conception. But that is my judgment. For me to impose that judgment on everyone else who is equally and maybe even more devout than I am seems to me is inappropriate in a pluralistic society."

Biden also later appeared to contradict himself, saying throughout Church history there has been "debate" on when life begins, implying that life may not begin at conception after all...........

Eluana Englaro update...

But now they have to find a doctor willing to kill her...

...............................................

ROME (AFP) — Italy's Constitutional Court rejected an appeal lodged by parliament against a ruling to let doctors stop feeding a woman who has been in a coma for 16 years, media reported Thursday.

Eluana Englaro, 36, has been receiving food and water artificially since January 1992 in a hospital in northern Lecco and her father has been seeking an end to the life support since 1999.

The Roman Catholic Church has however made Englaro a symbol in its campaign against mercy killings and has demanded that she be kept alive.

In July, a Milan appeal court ruled the young woman, who has been in a vegetative state since a road accident, could be removed from life support as it had been proven that her coma was irreversible.

It said that Englaro, when fully conscious, had stated her preference to die rather than being kept alive artificially.

However, Milan prosecutor Maria Antonietta Pezza asked the Supreme Court to strike down the July 9 appeal court ruling. A final decision on that is expected on November 11.

Pezza's intervention meant that hospital staff caring for Englaro could not stop the treatment that has been keeping her alive.

Italy's lower parliamentary chamber debated the case after the July 9 appeal court ruling, with members of the Chamber of Deputies deciding to raise the issue with the Constitutional Court, the country's highest court.

Most deputies argued the appeal court judges had exceeded their authority in their ruling. But the Constitutional Court said the appeal judges had acted within their rights, while noting that parliament has the ability to change the law if it wishes..........

Is this guy talking about the same Charlie we know? Have any strange lightning bolts struck in Florida? Or could this be an indication a Charlie weather vane is now indicating a strong wind in our favor?

..................................

Gov. Charlie Crist has proved he is enamored of the radical right. His recent appointment of two right-wing ideologues to the Florida Supreme Court are dead wrong for blind justice, the court of last resort in the state and every man, woman and child here — and for generations to come.

He has now willingly turned himself into Florida's version of President Bush, having given us the equivalent of U.S. Supreme Court Justices John Roberts and Samuel Alito — and for the same crass, self-serving purposes.

Will Florida families let the governor pack the Supreme Court with justices who may give us other Terri Schiavo fiascos with a different outcome, taking away their right to make their health and end-of-life decisions?..............

Science shows an amazing grasp of the obvious...

........................................

Most of the time, doctors have a simple way to determine if a patient needs pain medication: They ask. But when a brain injury renders someone unable to respond to questions, the right course of action becomes murkier. Now a study finds that the brains of some patients with brain injuries respond to an unpleasant electrical shock much as do the brains of healthy people, suggesting that these patients may feel pain even though they're unable to show it.

~Snip~

The findings are an important contribution to an understudied area, says Nicholas Schiff, a neurologist at New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical College in New York City. Minimally conscious patients can't talk or even wince to let doctors know they're in pain, Schiff notes: "There's nothing to guide you without this kind of data." Even so, Schiff says, researchers need to study a larger sample of patients before making specific guidelines for pain medications.

Picture of Terry Schiavo

Altered perceptions? Minimally conscious patients may have a greater capacity to feel pain than do those in a vegetative state (such as Terri Schiavo, above).

I don't recall signing on to the Republican Party thinking its core values having a RINOplasty and included killing innocent and helpless people. But I guess John Danforth had...

....................................

Former Sen. John Danforth wants the Republican Party to get back to its "good, old" traditions: lower taxes and less government.

Speaking at a Republican Leadership Council on Thursday night, the former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations said the political arm of religion has divided the country and led the party away from its core principles.

In 1976, Danforth, an ordained Episcopal minister, was elected to the U.S. Senate for Missouri. In 2001, he was named special peace envoy to Sudan and, in 2004, became U.S. ambassador to the United Nations before resigning five months later.

After witnessing the Republican-controlled federal government intervene in Terri Schiavo's death, Danforth said, he saw the need for his party to get away from defining itself by social issues.

"After the federal government was getting into (Schiavo's case), I thought, 'This was not the party I signed-on for,'" Danforth said.....

Please check out this thread by Sun!

.......................................

Senator Charles Schumer says he feels confident that the Dems will have a super majority - 60 senators - after this election. Let's not allow this to happen! A super majority can stop any judicial picks by John McCain, and IF (horrors) Barack Obama becomes president, his judicial picks would breeze right through.

As an example, I just heard a tape on the radio where Senator McCain said that Justice Thomas was a good pick, and Senator Obama said he would not have picked him.

Please support the Republicans in the senate race, even if they are not from your state. Maybe you can do some research and pick a candidate(s) who will be in the senate race who is your favorite, and help them out by calling a national talk show (or a local talk show if it's your state), contributing to their campaign, writing a letter to the editor, and/or volunteering for their campaign, etc..

Do what you can to help out, but kindly do something. IMO, the judicial nominations is the most important issue of all, because it affects all of the other issues, like pro-life, the sanctity of marriage, so-called "Fairness" doctrine, terrorism, 2nd Amendment, immigration, eminent domain - everything. Activist judges do what they please, so getting originalist judges on the bench is paramount. I ask FRiends to tell us which candidate(s) you like, and why, which would be useful for calling a talk show.

In this presidential race, let's not forget GOP candidates for Congress, particularly the Senate!

OTTAWA, October 8, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Conservative Prime Minister Stephen Harper went on a verbal rampage against the right to life of unborn children last week, promising not only that a Conservative government would not open the abortion issue, but that it would prevent anyone else from raising it.

Asked by a reporter if Harper could give assurances to pro-abortion groups, who are accusing the Conservatives of engineering a stealth pro-life campaign, Harper said that he could. "The answer is yes. This government will not open, will not permit anyone to open the abortion debate. Our position is clear," he said, speaking in French....

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- The issue of judicial picks is important for the pro-life community because the next set of Supreme Court judges will likely determine whether America has another 35 years of 50 million abortions. Yet, the issue hasn't received near the national attention it normally does in a presidential election year.

Mario Diaz, the policy director for legal issues for the pro-life group Concerned Women for America, says he is surprised a comment Biden made during the vice-presidential debate hasn't received more attention.

Asked to name a policy issue on which he changed his mind, Biden said he determined five years into his Senate tenure that he should start evaluating the ideology of judicial appointments.

"It took about five years for me to realize that the ideology of that judge makes a big difference," he said....

I picked up my McCain-Palin yard sign today. There was a nice poster of Sarah Palin in the HQ. Since I'm an indy and cuz that RNC HQ helped bump off Terri, I didn't stick around to volunteer. At least I have my yard sign. The judges who killed Terri will have their judgment day by the real judge (Fr. Pavone).

Charlie Crist wants to be re-elected so he's going to choose conservative judges. He still let Terri die and I'm glad McCain didn't choose him for VP pick.

In case it was missed or misunderstood earlier, Italian court says she can be thrown to the lions...

[JURIST] Italy's Constitutional Court [official website, in Italian] has rejected [decision text, in Italian] a parliamentary challenge to a Milan appeals court decision holding that doctors can remove the feeding tube of Eluana Englaro [materials, in Italian], a young woman who has been in a vegetative state for 16 years. In a decision issued Wednesday the court specified the interruption of treatment can only be used where "the condition of vegetative state is irreversible and there is no medical basis, according to internationally recognized standards, to suggest the person has the slightest chance of recovery." AFP has more. La Repubblica has local coverage.

Eluana Englaro, had been in a coma since an automobile accident in 1992. Her father, Beppino Englaro, has been trying to get her feeding tube removed since 1999. In 2005, the Constitutional Court upheld a lower court's ruling to keep her feeding tube in place [Reuters report], because they could find no specific evidence on Englaro's view of life and death.

Now why would the Seattle Times endorse this candidate on the Republican ticket?

...............................

Republican Reichert too often plays on his role as the honest cop. But that is also a significant strength when it comes to taking votes against his party and recognizing that his district is changing into an environmental glen when it comes to federal policy. Examples include his work on Mount Rainier National Park, his support for the Wild Sky Wilderness and his refusal to buckle to his colleagues on drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. He's against it.

Reichert also acted correctly in opposing legislation when Congress intervened in the case of a woman in a coma, Terri Schiavo....

PORTLAND, Oregon, October 10, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) - The Oregon Court of Appeals on Wednesday denied a father's appeal to keep his six frozen embryos alive, and ordered that the embryos be destroyed by thawing, as ordered by his ex-wife. The court also ruled that the embryos' fate fell under the issue of "property rights."

The court unanimously agreed that the father, orthodontist Dr. Darrell Angle, had no right to "impose a genetic parental relationship" on his ex-wife, pediatrician Dr. Laura Dahl, who did not wish to be considered the mother of the preborn children in the event that they were carried to term. Angle, on the other hand, insisted that the embryos were alive and deserved to be protected from destruction....
