If one were excommunicated would it be done publicly or privately? Wouldn't it be instructive to the flock to see the results of purposeful disobedience of the tenets of the Church?
Archbishop John Francis Donoghue did it very publicly, but did not name names. He released a document called
Worthy to Receive in August 2004. The document prohibited pro-abortion politicians from receiving Holy Communion in the Archdiocese of Atlanta. Than ban is still in effect.
The only way a pro-abortion politician can have the ban lifted is to see the Archbishop, and see what they must do to get it lifted (renounce support for abortion, etc.).
