My understanding is he was searching for a dry lake east of there in NV on his flight. I doubt anyone knows why he was in the Mammoth area but I believe he could have just come west to follow 395 for his fight home or maybe for the scenery.
I would think it would be very difficult to spot wreckage in that area even from the air unless you were right on top of it.

Saw on tv that searchers found a plane.
Could be bad reporting as I could not find a link.
Tomorrow the hills should be covered with searchers anyway.

Don’t have any idea but george76 just reported a plane has been found, post 102.
Thanks George, will start checking to see if anyone has more on it.

Back in my Civil Air Patrol Days, we once found an aircraft that had clipped the treetops at just the right angle to bring them down on top of it, obscuring it from view. AND it was in a limestone ravine that bounced the LPER up and out, maiing finding it very hard.
We knew the general area it was in, but couldn’t pinpoint it.
A ground team finally found it about 24 hours after the crash, in fairly well populated Indiana!

(Palin's hot and she has a birth certificate.)
To: george76; All
County sheriff has confirmed from the data plate that this was Fosset’s plane.

Thanks for the update. Sad for his family, but it will probably be a relief to finally know what happened.
